Hello, I am having problems with me display...it is stuck running in 16 colors mode and I don't know how to fix it. I'm pretty sure I need new drivers but I don't know which one(s) I have posted all of the help that I got form another user to user help site, and I was hoping someone here may know the answers to what I need to do?
    Thanks all

Hello everybody, my friends computer crashed on him so I told him I could reformat it for him. It is a pretty old system....KMD6 400mhz with 128MB ram, running Windows ME, he has two hard drives both are 2Gb's one has the operating system and the other holds his files & some programs. I got everything reinstalled after I ran the fdisk & format.....everything looked good until I had trouble with the display driver. I keep getting an error message the says :
"Your computer's display driver will not work with Multiple Display Support. Contact your hardware vendor for assistance in obtaining a display driver that will work with Multiple Display Support" I don't know what this means because he only has one monitor? HIs monitor is a Komodo K73V whatever that is. I've never heard of it. The display is stuck running in 16 colors at 640x480. I tried uninstalling the display drivers and restarting the computer, but it keeps installing the drivers out of the C:\Windows folder and I keep getting the same problem in device manager....I tried updating the drivers from the win ME cd but it says the best drivers are already being used, so I tried running in safe mode and uninstalling the drivers while in safe mode but I still get the same message in device manager when I restart and it automatically reinstalls the drivers.....I went onto my system and downloaded some drivers onto a disk, but they won't work on his system either. Can anyone help me out with this ? Please....I'm begging
Thanks very very much for any help you can give me

what kind of card is it, and what drivers?

boot into safe mode, uninstall the drivers, then delete the folder they're in. then reboot...

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

In device manager it shows a little computer monitor named "display Adapters" with a + next to it....under it it has another monitor with a yellow ! through it named "standard PCI graphics adapter (VGA) and the there is another monitor below that one with the same name but there is no yellow ! and it says this device is working correctly. When I uninstall the one with the yellow ! through it, it keeps reinstalling it when I restart the system even when I do it in safe mode. I don't know what kind of graphics card is in there....I thing it is just an intergrated one that is built into the motherboard???
I hope this helps a little more

don't restart after uninstalling. don't restart until after you uninstall and THEN delete the folder containing the driver...then restart.

    could you post a test?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

OK, I'll try to uninstall and delete the drivers from the system folder but I can't post a test because he doesn't have internet.....sorry
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ummmm....OK I am in safe mode and I removed both items from device manager and I was able to delete one of the drivers named C:\windows\system\vmm32.vxd
but it won't let me delete the C:\windows\system\VGA.drv it says cannot delet this file, it is being used by windows "ok" do you know how I can delete this one?
    Thanks again

find out what video chipset he has.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

How do I find out what the chipset is ?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sceptre Corporation is the name of the company currently handling Komodo monitors. I could not find the monitor in question listed on their website. This is the contact information for Sceptre Corporation. They highly encourage email contact before telephonic contact.

OK, I have been searching for the drivers for the graphics card, but I don't know what card I have I know it is a Matrox so I went to their site but I don't know which driver I need. I removed the card from the computer and I'm looking at in now but there are only two white stickers on the card one in a barcode with AAP71955 typed on it and the other sticker says MIL2P/4BC/20 assembled in Canada 403 so I figured the card is a Matrox Millenium but I don't know which model. There are no drivers listed for a MIL2P or anything with 4BC or 20.
They have a driver for Millenium and a Millenium 2 but they are for Win 95/98 my buddy is running Win ME.....Does anyone know what I should do/try?
Thanks for the help.........I'm going crazy, FYI the system is an Asus P5S-B mb,
    AMD-K6 400Mhz. 128MB Ram, Bios V.4.51PG, 4gig/hd with a Komodo K73V monitor
    running Windows ME.
    Thanks again

    http://www.snapfiles.com/get/everest.html

download that onto his computer, and run it. it will tell you the video card. (make sure you put the card back in. )

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

    I'll give it a try
    Thanks for your help
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, I ran the test from snapfiles.com and it syas that the cpu is an AMD K6-2 400Mhz
The Motherboard is an ASUS P5S-B the chipset is SIS 530
the Bios type is Award Modular (05/11/99)
the video adapter is standard PCI Graphics Adapter(VGA)
the 3D Accelerator is Matrox Millennium II SIS 86C306

so my question is.......I still don't know what drivers I should be installing??

Can anyone reccomend which one(s) I should try.

OH ya....the test thing that I ran also said I had a problem, it gave me a message that said :
No CPU L2 Cache found. (This could cause performance problems or something like that)
Is there something I could do for that?

    Thanks for all your help

which one out of these is your card? http://www.matrox.com/mga/products/home.cfm ... i cant tell from your post whether you have a PCI card an AGP card or whether it's integrated video

the only Millenium 2 cards I found were here:
    http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/certified/home.cfm

    and here:
    http://www.matrox.com/mga/support/drivers/latest/home.cfm

but one of them says there is no driver for ME and the other says the driver comes with ME (I would suggets upgrading from ME because microsoft no longer supports it)

the fact you only get 640x480 and 16 colors is mostly likely caused by you not having any drivers on your system so I don't see the point of deleting something that is not there ... also i think the fact everest said you have no cache is most likely everevst messing up as those apps aren't always 100% accurate

and that site gave me a headache BTW ... I know what vid cards im avoiding
