My DVD Burner is possessed? Please help!

I recently bought a Nec DVD +/- RW ND-2510A burner. It worked great, for about 2 weeks. At that point, I ran out of cheap Memorex media and switched to some more expensive Ink-Jet printable media. At first, it would not recognize the media. I gave up for the moment and came back to it several days later, when it suddenly recognized it. However, now it won't recognize even THAT media. I've tried 3 different brands at this point, nothing works. What am I doing wrong????

I don't know if this matters, but it will play DVD's just fine - including the very same media it does not recognize when it is blank. I've tried burning with Nero and with CopyToDVD. I take the media over to my husband's computer and his DVD burner doesn't have problems with it at all. His burner is a much older Sony version.

I've updated to the latest firmware, version 2.16 I believe. I can't seem to find any drivers for this particular brand (not that I'm sure it would help anyway). I uninstalled the drivers anyway and let windows reinstall (on the advice of Window's troubleshooting). Not sure what else to try at this point.

Have you tried updating Nero?

 

All right, I went and updated Nero. I then attempted to burn another dvd. It states "There is not enough space to burn this compilation onto this disc. Please insert another disc that provides more space." But below, where it says "Disc type in the recorder:" it DOES say it's a dvd-r.
