    Can it read regular CD's?

Have you tried more than one DVD?

Make sure the DVD is clean.

Can you access it via a drive letter (D:, E:, etc) and view the contents?

Perhaps you don't have DVD software installed?

Details about the system please. :)

Make sure you have installed the jumpers right for the DVD drive. If they are not correctly installed to the mobo then it will have electricity to it but it won't read it. Read your manual for further questioning.

What is your region setting? Check by rightclicking the DVD drive and selecting properties, then the hardware tab. Select your drive from the list and press the properties button. Select the DVD region tab. Make sure the DVD region matches the DVD region logo on your DVD. Be careful, you are limited to 5 changes before it locks.

The cd rom manual for installing the cd rom to the mobo. It should have a diagram as to where to plug the jumpers into the mobo.

Thats not really much of a manual then is it? lol. Try to find an electronic guide then somewhere on the internet. Type in like "How to put a dvd drive in" under google.

could be many things, or just simply the dvd laser has worn out
Have you tried a lens cleaning disc
can you put the drive back in one of the machines it worked in before and see if it reads dvds
You could try going into device manager selecting the dvd drive and uninstalling it, then reboot and let windows re-install the device

Might also want to try running the nero info tool
