My Firewalls random switch from home to public networks

Ive been having trouble staying connected to the internet with my new laptop. Ive just discovered in my firewall that i have access when the home or work networks are connected but it seems to randomly change to public networks which stops my access. What might cause this switch?

 

Can you tell a litte more about your setup? What OS and what firewall? When you say that your firewall is connected to networks, is that a software firewall on your computer?

At first read I was thinking that you meant that your wireless connection is switching from your preferred networks to any other network that is in range. I've seen that happen with a misplaced checkmark in the wireless settings on a users computer.

Since you said your firewall is connecting to public networks, I'm obviously not following your situation correctly.
