Flint Michigan isn't far enough. Send him to France; he's obviously French at heart.

Moore does not speak for America, he does not speak for the military, and he does not have the country's best interests at heart, no matter what airs he puts on. He won't "sleep well at night" until America BECOMES France. I hope he has insomnia for the rest of his life.

80% of the military did not WANT Kerry for Commander In Chief. 100% of the military volunteered for their jobs, knowing that they might end up in a flag draped coffin.

Good links Star. I own Fahrenhype 911. Down here, I picked it up at Sam's Club. Part of THAT documentary is voluntary real interviews with some of the military and military related people that Moore used, WITHOUT permission, in his so-called "documentary". They hate Moore, what he said, and what he stands for, and wish they could have their segments removed from his film.

What Eclayton said. Odd that he quotes the number killed, yet any news network you watched during the election night coverage all said military was overwhelmingly pro-Bush. I watch his flicks and agree with Sgt. Tibbs that Roger and Me was a well done documentary showing the evilest of evil people with all of their money made by literally devestating a town.

Bowling for Columbine was actually pretty decent. I liked the bit about regulating bullets as well as guns, not a bad idea and getting bullets out of large retail places like Kmart. But, like any whiny liberal, he makes a stand and one store and goes to bed feeling good. Should have continued from there IMHO, but he made his point. He lost me blaming the NRA and Heston for deaths, rather then looking at other problem that we all know about, such as the situation at home and how they got all these guns and ammo unnoticed.

Ill hold comment on Farenheit because I am waiting for it to come to HBO because I wouldnt give that slob another dime.

My understanding is he is now a Manhattanite living the good life in NYC area. Too bad he made all his money off the backs of the down trodden and poor and returned nothing, much like the corporations he attacks.

The only foolproof voting method for Florida voters.

All ballots to be plain paper, with name, party, and picture of each candidate, with a 1" square box next to the picture.

Square box to be filled in with crayon by the voter.

Ballot to be inspected by kindergarden teacher before it is put into ballot box.

Voters that can't draw inside the lines to receive a frowny face on their ballot and sent to the back of the line and told to do it over.

Iraq was nothing but a goal on Bush's personal agenda. No WMD, no Alkida, nothing. I'm not saying that going into Iraq was absolute for nothing, and that no good came of it. Much good did come. We stopped Saddam from killing Innocent people, and Iraqis are now free. It is the pretense that we went into Iraq that i have a problem with. For the record, there was a while there where I was regularly checking that list in fear that Isaac's name would show up on it, or at the very least, the name of one or more of the guys in his unit. I had several talks with Isaac's mom about if he would come back from Iraq alive. Still in the midst of all that, Isaac would assure us repeatedly that he was there for a reason. Eric had told him that if it came down to it, he would join up. He would rather that than have us have to fight this war in our own backyard. Isaac's response was, "If you had to do that, then I'm not doing my job very well. I'm here so you don't have to be."

Let me get this straight. The president made up all the WMD intelligence, and wasn't crooked enough to plant evidence? Why didn't he have some anthrax and VX gas planted over there to back him up? We have several thousand pounds of Russian plutonium and uranium, the president could have easily planted that and uncovered Saddam's 'black market nuclear weapon stockpile'.

Well, I suppose we did give Iraq weapons. So, I guess my question is what do you propose we do? We can't go back in time and take the weapons back, and I don't think that the weapons were necessarily the problem. The problem was Hussein, and his warped way of thinking.
One could even make an arguement that since we gave the weapons to Iraq, we should take responsibility and put a stop to Husseins actions.

    Bottom line:
There is but one truth. Unfortunately, people see it in a different light and draw different conclusions. As I see it, there are 2 types of ideals: liberal and conservative. Liberals see the conservatives as ignorant extremists; conservatives see the liberals as ignorant extremists. The recent election was about those two ideals. President Bush is not the ideal conservative by any means, but Kerry is the ideal liberal. The election results show that more US citizens are conservative in their thinking. Because Bush is more of a moderate, the Democrats would have won if they had placed another moderate, such as Lieberman, on the ticket. Liberals don't stand much of a chance. Kerry would have lost by a much larger margin if he had claimed to be a liberal (the major news failed to inform the people of his status as "Most Liberal Senator").
What I'd like to see (and I will assume most Americans also) is Bush going farther to the right and begin shrinking the federal government. And also appointing judges who will not legislate their own beliefs and simply follow the Constitution as it is written (no interpretation is necessary).

And a little reminder: How many times in the past 4 years has U.S. soil been assaulted? ONCE (the terrorists have threatened us many times since, however).

Reason we haven't had any recent attacks: We took the fight to them.

We did not cave in to the terrorists and elect a liberal President, like Spain did. We are not a nation of liberals who will rely on the U.N. to protect us. Now get over it and jump in the boat with the rest of us.

Moore's style is compelling, which is why he sells. Moore's substance is blatant lying to suit is prejudices. Since his topics are important ones to the country, that a lot of people use to make decisions about important issues, that makes the truth of his "work" more important than the average film-maker. Oliver Stone's opinions about Kennedy's death are irrelevant. HIS work is presented as fiction. Please read this for a detailed analysis of Moore's "facts" in Columbine and then tell me how much you admire that movie:

Why not spend billions of dollars to fix those problems before going half way around the world to fight a war you don't need to be fighting. The only reason to fight that war is to get more oil for the people who controll Bush.

i must say i agree with colonel angus...

bush is an ignorant bumbling idiot, who only thinks about himself, and sometimes America

no, i dont hate America, i just extremely dislike Bush.

its obvious that he wanted to go into iraq for personal reasons, you dont just invade a country, overthrow a government (albiet a bad one) because you have "evidence" that there is weapons of mass distruction.

and if your saying that this doesnt involve me well think again.

i live in southern ontario, which in near new york. during the summer we often get really horrible days with tons of smog. Do you know where most of that smog comes from? America. Now i dont know if kerry was going to do any green decisions, but you must realize how bad those smog days are.

also, bush, and his administration have been repeatedly breaking the NAFTA aggreement. they have been putting tarriffs on canadian softwood, even after the NAFTA has told them to stop. How much more ignorant can you be? those tarriffs are seriously hurting the Canadian lumber industry, which is quite a large chunk of the Canadian economy. I know that our lumber hurts you economy, but you signed the agreement too!

Now im done, and i just want to say one thing. I dont neccasarily support kerry, its just bush might be good for america, but honestly, other countries are important too.

My first thought after the election was "Thank you God!" I voted for George Bush and I am proud of it. People say that he is an idiot but maybe they should try taking a look at his educational background. Chances are he's smarter than you (yes, you. The one reading this). I also don't think that it is fair to criticise President Bush for the way he has chosen to run this country. Have YOU ever run a country? I didn't think so. When President Bush was sworn into office in January of 2001, he did not know that just eight months later we would be getting attacked by terrorists and that many, many lives would be lost. To say "I support the war" seems quite stupid. But I do think it is right for us to be over there. If somebody broke into your house and tried to kill you or your family, wouldn't you try to defend yourselves? As the richest nation in the world, I believe, we have a duty to help those less fortunate than ourselves. A lot of good has been done in this war.

I don't think the majority of America's problems lie in who is in charge. America's issues stem from a lack of individual morals. People in this country don't care about other people the way we should.

As far as the economy is concerned, it seems like everybody wants to get rich quick and nobody wants to really work unless it's something fun. When I lived in California, I kept hearing about how my state was in debt and all I could think was, if we are in debt, and it's such a huge problem, why are we paying $10 a pop to go see movies and then paying those movie stars millions of dollars? Who needs that kind of money?

I know it seems like I am just ranting and raving but this is how I feel. I'm just tired of people whining about things all the time but never taking the time to do anything about it.

It's like the sharks say in Finding Nemo "If I am to change this image, I must first change myself." Pretty deep coming from a cartoon, I think.

"Anybody" is a very dangerous and scary position to hold.

    Answer to the first question:
Because it's president (notice lack of capitalization out of disrespect) has a 98 IQ.

    The second:
Too much of america is too ignorant to care...they would rather watch a 'good football game' than do their political homework.

    The third:
    Good question for Cheney!!!

All & all, our 'war' is over oil and religion...control. It has NOTHING to do with terrorism!!!

Here is a letter I received the other day...read and THINK.

    ****************************************************************************
    Hey all,

I’m writing this at 35,000 feet, exhausted, saddened, and angry, on my way back form Ohio where I spent the days of the election doing everything possible to avoid the outcome we all feared. Kerry has conceded defeat, begging the question “What now?” I’ll get to that shortly but there is so much to consider and there are stories to tell. This email will be a bit long so I’ll give you a “table of contents” so you can skip to the parts that are of interest.
    1. Election 2004: my take
    2. What we can do now
    3. Ohio tales
    4. Thanks, extra special thanks, and extra, EXTRA special thanks.
    Enjoy,

    1. Election 2004: my take

Well, it obviously wasn’t the outcome we had hoped for. What saddens me is that in the end, it wasn’t about terrorism (or security in general). It wasn’t about the economy. Nor was it about health care. It wasn’t jobs, the environment or even social security. In the end, it was Guns, God, and Gays. It was people voting for their right-wing Christian beliefs over good governance. I watched people who are in the grips of endemic, intergenerational poverty tell me they were voting for Dubya because (and this is a quote) “I don’t want my daughter gittin’ an abortion.” (note to you lady: You’re daughter is going to have an abortion whether its Kerry, Bush or Abraham freakin’ Lincoln in the White House. The question is whether she’s going to be safe and whether the doctor is going to get arrested. Sorry, tangent.)

I watched people vote AGAINST THEIR ECONOMIC INTERESTS over and over again so that *gays can’t marry*!!! Let me get this straight: your child’s education isn’t getting funded and your job just went overseas. Plus your Soc. Sec. check is in limbo and your prescription drugs cost twice as much as they should…BUT…you are on cloud nine because Steve and Jim can’t get MARRIED? Holy crap. I learned during my high priced bidness edjacashun that human beings are “maximizers of utility.” BS! They voted on BELIEF. We are living in a United States where about half of us want a theocracy (correction: a CHRISTIAN theocracy) and the other half want…well, what do we want?

And there is the crux of the matter. The Republicans are willing to settle for the lowest common denominator in order to win. They will subjugate their own agenda in order to win. And we won’t do it. For better or worse (worse, I guess) we want to make sure every opinion and agenda is addressed. We have a “big tent” which is great…BUT…at what price? And do we want to marginalize one group at the expense of the whole? Which group? How can we create a grand coalition that makes sense? Are we too enamored of “plans and ideas” over “faith and ideals”? I sure hope that we don’t have to sink that low in order to win back the White House.

Four more years of ideological extremism, a move further away from the center, a house and senate full of lackeys that are going to rubber stamp every bad idea that comes along and a supreme court that is going to get more conservative. Good bye civil rights, civil liberties, and civility. This is going to get ugly. My only consolation is that Bush now has four years to live with what he has created: A war with no exit strategy, a $400 billion dollar deficit, shrinking tax revenue, and a sputtering economy. He shall be hoist upon his own petard. (If you don’t know what that means, look it up. It’s actually a pretty elegant and funny turn of phrase and I’m chuckling to myself as I write it. Anything for a smile today.)

    2. What Comes Next –

With defeat assured, my first inclination was to say “screw it” and just go into a funk for the next four years. Perhaps some of you are feeling the same way. I gave myself just this morning to feel that way and now I realize that we have a mandate, indeed an OBLIGATION to commit ourselves to four years of consistent hard work to make sure that 2008 is the year that we take back this country. Sure, we worked hard for a few months but wasn’t that like cramming for the exam when we had a full semester to study?

By the end, my list was up over 200 names. Think about it. If each of you created your own list of even half that size and if even half of those names were unique (non-overlapping), we could reach tens of thousands of people in just a few progressions of forwards. This is the power that we put to use and this is the power that we have to enlighten, educate, empower, and enrage. I hope that you were able to forward some of these messages along and that in doing so, you realize how integral you are to the process of an educated and insightful electorate.

    Some quick math:
    • I sent out an email each day or so to roughly 200 people. That touches 200 people. But If…
    • Half of those 200 each sent it out to another 100, we will have touched (in one degree of forwarding) another 10,000 people. And if…
    • Half of those 10,000 each sent it out to another 50, we will have touched (in a second degree of forwarding) another 250,000. And if…
    • Half of those 250,000 sent it to just 25 people, we will have touched (in a final degree of forwarding) another 3,125,000.
    • That, my friends, is power.

Here’s the plan: (a) I am going to set up a website. It will be a clearinghouse of information on everything we stand for. It will have clearly defined sections on everything from voting rights and the Democratic party to progressive issues and the candidates we believe in. Beyond a portal to information, it will be a clarion call to ACTION. There will be tons of information on how to GET INVOLVED. I’ll make sure you know about it. Give me until just after the New Year to get it up and running. And if there is something you would love to see on the site…let me know and it will be there. (b) I will keep Konrad’s Progressive Issues List up and running. I’ll try and send out one modest email per week with the best of the issues, the best of our elected officials and occasionally the worst. As always, let me know if you have people to add to the list or if you would like to unsubscribe. I’ll keep the volume of emails sent out very modest and the value high. And as always, your names will stay in the bcc section so you’ll be anonymous. (c) I’m going to challenge everyone to stay committed. It is too easy to treat our election process like we do swimming or track and field: once every four years for a few weeks at the Olympics and then we forget about it. Let’s lay the groundwork today, tomorrow and beyond for success in taking back America.

In spite of the outcome, realize that even though the “electoral map” looks mighty red, MOST AMERICANS ARE MODERATE AND COMMON SENSICAL. What can we do to inspire them to get involved and recapture our country from the ideologues? What can YOU do to educate and inspire the good people to get out and vote their conscience the way that the radical right wingers do?

    3. Ohio Tales

As you no doubt know, many months ago, I volunteered to work with Election Protection Volunteers, a non-profit, non-partisan group that organized and trained volunteers to watch the polls in key battleground states and states with a history of voter intimidation, harassment, and suppression. I originally chose Arizona but at the last minute switched to Ohio in order to be closer to The Action! What an awesome decision. I didn’t get into any confrontations (damn!) or have any shenanigans, hijinx, or skullduggery at my polling place but it was still amazing to be involved.

I left just after midnight on Sunday and arrived early on Monday into Columbus, rented a car and headed to meet some Kerry canvassers in a rather conservative working class suburb of Cincinnati. I worked with a great woman named Vietly who is a Cincy native who has recently moved to LA. She and I went door-to-door in a really working class neighborhood and worked to get out the vote for our man. It was a real eye-opener for me. I have rarely been around that kind of cyclical poverty and I realized how wickedly effective the GOP has been in somehow getting voters to vote AGAINST their best economic interest. As I would learn, this election had NOTHING to do with terrorism, the economy, jobs, health care, or education. It was God, Guns, and Gays.

After a day of canvassing, we did our training with literally HUNDREDS of enthusiastic folks at a local church. Everyone was so amped. The vibe was terrific. I could barely sleep which was a downer because…

I was up the next morning at 4:40 AM (that’s 1:40 AM Pacific Time, the clock my body decided to work on) and we headed down to the church to meet our field lawyer and three law students from Indiana University. Our crew of seven volunteers (remember…no one got paid) went to a precinct about a mile or two from downtown in a older part of the city. The populace was trending toward elderly and almost 100% African-American. If three people voted for Bush, I didn’t see ‘em! It was really amazing to see the energy and focus of the voters at our polls.

There were almost no problems except that the poll workers were as slow as molasses which caused some minor lines. Nothing compared to the snafu’s up in Columbus where lines extended to 5 HOURS because the idiot Secretary of State (Republican, natch) had understaffed and under-machined many polling places. You mean record turnout caught him by SURPRISE? Geez. Anyway, our precinct was smooth. The only downer was the it rained on and off all day and we had to, by law, be 100 feet from the polling place meaning on a sidewalk with no cover except our umbrellas and ponchos. The rain fell hard enough and there was enough wind that it really didn’t matter what we were wearing…we were soaked to the bone all day. 12 hours on a sidewalk handing out information and not getting into any confrontations. A bit boring.

But the net result was a smooth experience and over 75% turnout at our precinct. Mission accomplished.

    4. Thanks to everyone who has received my emails this summer and fall-

First off, I have to give a warm and heartfelt *thank you* to everyone who asked to be added to my email list and thanks to everyone who stayed with it until the bitter end in spite of my best efforts to rival penis enlargement, online Viagra, and Nigerian bankers as the webs most noxious spammers. I’ve tried to keep the value high and only send you the best, most credible, funniest, and most intense information I could find. I hope that some of you were able to use it to help form your own opinions and to stoke your fire as we fought this incredible fight.

An *extra special* thanks to everyone who went one step further and gave of their time, money, or expertise to help the candidates and issues that mattered to us. It could have been a donation, phone calling, canvassing, or public speaking. You might have written a check, designed a website, or helped organize volunteers. Whatever you did, you did something and it was that kind of commitment that made this thing as close as it was. Keep in mind…no sitting President has EVER been unseated during wartime. We almost entered uncharted waters. Think what we can do with four more years of incompetence.

An *extra extra special* thanks to the people who inspired me to channel my frustration and anger into making a difference this year. They deserve mentions by name: My wife, Stef, whose patience (as most of you know) would make Job seem restless, Alexandra Paul and Ian Murray whose principles, idealism and activism were guiding lights for me, and my parents who inspired me more than I think they know. They taught me that it is ALWAYS better to do what is right instead of what is easy.

And finally a really small thank you to Dubya and his merry band of Idiots, without whom I’d probably be as apathetic as 50% of the American “voting public”.

That’s all from election central. You’ve been a faithful and energetic audience and your constant encouragement and even more constant needling and sarcasm have kept me in the game.

This is not the end. This is the beginning.

    Konrad
