my freakin sony cd rw CRX126E

sony cdrw not recognized as recordable device. edited the registry. still not :cry. At times the drive door wont open :banghead. the couple times that i have had to manually :boxing eject; the cds that were inside now have a very distinct "rub?" mark in the center. short of throwing it out the window im stuck :confused


oh, i also un and re-installed freakin drivers :crybaby

 

As far as I know, there is no CRX126e, there is a CRX120e... either way, this is a VERY old model of CDRW and quite simply could be worn out. If you are getting those "rub" rings, the drive is out of balance and it will eventually destroy all your discs if given enough time. You local PC store should have new CDRW drives for under $30, and new DVDRW drives for around $50 or $60. You may be able to pick up a used one for under $15 or $20... just be sure you can return it if it's no good, or if you have a software problem. Speaking of which, have you tried using a different burning program just to see if it works? Look in the Back Up section here at MajorGeeks; there's several good free burning programs in there....

:clap Grassyass senor! ive tried for EVER to get just a general idea of what the heck is/was going on and usually just ended up deep in a forest of trouble shooting pages with no how to get out or even why i entered the damn forest to begin with. BUT now, thanks to you, my days of wandering aimlessly thru unfriendly tree towns are over. Wa-hoo :celebrate
