I humbly submit another Friday poem,,

Footnote: I wrote this to honor, and remember, William “Willie” Nelson Boy, who succumbed to leukemia in 2001 at the age of 7 years old. He never knew a day without pain and discomfort. Until his dying day he swore that his only friend, Grinkles, was real. He made numerous drawings of his friend and displayed them on his wall. There is that child within me that believed every word.

oh god honey, that made me cry. i had a child lost to muscular dystrophy. she made it to thirteen, out staying her time by at least 7yrs. she did not have an imaginary friend, but on more than one occasion (mostly fighting back from the brink) she reported seeing GOD. this is her discription. 'he's bigger that my dad (6'2") but smaller than that mountain in wales. he has long white hair and sparkly eyes. he has no shoes and THOSE sort of clothes.' she has also had peotry written about her, and if i can bring myself to do it i will publish them here. im not sure i can share this though. thank you boccemon, for honoring this child. thankyou for sharing this with us. God bless you. with much aloha and sadness, laurie

Boccemon, has any of your work been published? It's definitely good enough to share more widely than just this forum.

Thank you all so very much. No, my work has never been published and what I put on this forum is being seen for the first time. I've had two pieces published when I was very young; one piece about a gnat in Boys Life and another about rabbits in Readers Digest many years ago. I have been writing about my life and the lives of others since I can remember. It was something that my mother encouraged me to do, and to date I would estimate that I have at least 2000 +/- poems put away in boxes, books, my hard drive. I've never actually thought my work "would make the grade" in truth. I find that a lot of my work is a personal thing and I have found a small niche here that I can share it with people that I've grown to "virtually" like and trust. I am quite content to put a poem in a thread every Friday for those that enjoy them. Perhaps I'll become known as the forum poet or something. Once again, thank you so much for your words of encouragement and praise, it means a lot. :)

Not much of a poet here, but I know moving when I see it. Thanks for sharing.

bocceman. although i agree its difficult to eveluate you own work, even you must realise that most people have difficulty stringing two words together, never mind writing beutifull, observant, thought provocing, and touching work like yours. i would not know how you would seek publication, but i know that you should. your work deserves to be shared with more than us. much aloha.

Thank you Laurie. I know how to get published. I have several items published that deal with alcohol/drug addiction and recovery through Hazelden Press. I have had several hobbies that I really enjoyed and tried to turn them into a profitable entity...and then it becomes a job more or less. For me, this takes the pleasure out of it. I have a large body of work that I have done over a span of about 47 years. The problem with getting something published is that there is an editor somewhere that thinks that he knows more than you. They then want re-writes, re-phrasing, etc., and before you know it your work is not really yours anymore...it is what they want it to be. I'm not into that. Like I said, I'm quite happy with the little niche here at MG, and I have no real desire to do more with my work right now. I do appreciate how well it has been recieved here and will continue tooffer something on Fridays. Again, thank you one and all, Tate.
