My Grandpa Ron taught me how to golf when I was 3, I golfed for 20 or more years, and thought it was the most fun you could have. When people my age were playing baseball, football and everything else you could think of, I was out golfing with my Grandpa. I don't know why, but The song "Sloop John B." always reminds me of my Grandpa. I suppose it could be because of the grandfather reference in the song, other than that he isn't the kind of person in the song at all.

When I was 12 I started hunting, it was always myself, my dad, and him hunting. When my brother turned 12, there was another one to hunt with. He lost his wife of more than 50 years in 2003. That was a horrible time. She had cancer, she knew she was on her way out, but was always an inspiration. She taught me "If you don't want the peaches, don't shake the tree." In fact, when my dad told her that his girlfriend was pregnant (with me) that's what she told him.

My grandpa was one of the people that started the company that employed him, and his son (my dad) and now me, my brother, an aunt and cousin. He was involved in a lot of things, like his mother, while he could be.

My Grandpa died on the 10th. He was 75 years old, and had a little dimensia, but was healthy, no one knew it was coming. I hope he's found my Grandmother, she's surely missed him as much as we will now.

If you read this, play a song for him.

It's a curse in my family to not show emotion, I haven't cried or teared up. I wish I could, maybe I'd know better how I felt. The viewing is later today, I'm sure one or two will slip out.

You're not the only one who doesn't cry in times like that - I've done that nearly every time a relative or friend has passed. People just don't seem to understand that the grieving process can be different for everyone, and that not crying isn't something you plan on doing.

    Sorry for your loss. :(

My heartfelt sympathy and condolences to you and all those who loved your Grandpa Ron. He sounds like he was a fine man, a faithful husband, an honorable military veteran, and a good teacher. You were lucky to have known him. Cherish the memories.

Sounds like a really great guy Paxton, life freakin sucks eh?Your lucky though to have known him and spent so much quality time with him.

One of my Grandad's died the same year I was born he never even got to see his Grand kid and from what I hear we would have been like peas in a pod,he was always taking electronic stuff apart and building his own radios ect.He was also a keen photographer and developed his own photographs.

My other Granddad was sick during what seemed my entire childhood along with premature senility he died when I was 7,I got to sit on his knee though and he bounced me up and down:-D

Sorry to hear about that Mcadam.

I reread this thread and realized I hadn't written to you Paxton. I am so sorry for your loss. Grandparents teach us so much that sometimes we don't realize until much later in life. I am glad you had a chance to get to know him and enjoy him.
The memories will stay with you forever.

For all of us who have lost someone.

    Rose Beyond the Wall
    by A.L. Frink

    A rose once grew
    where all could see,
    sheltered beside
    a garden wall,
    And as the days passed
    swiftly by,
it spread its branches, straight and tall...

One day, a beam of light
    shone through
    a crevice that had
    opened wide ~
    The rose bent gently
    toward its warmth
    then passed beyond
    to the other side

    Now, you who deeply
    feel its loss,
be comforted ~ the rose blooms there ~
    its beauty even greater now,
    nurtured by
    God's own loving care.

That is truly beautiful and hopeful Pax, it is comforting to know something or someone you love is never gone forever.
    Thank You
