Okay I have a 300gb external hard drive, which is actually internal (IDE) but I used an external device to make it that way. After the table fell on my legs (yes, out of nowhere, the desk disassembled before me) Hopefully my PC is OK but the external hard disk doesn't start.

Any extreme ideas on how to make it start again? I had all my stuff on it, except my music.

I expect ideas like : "Put incense near it and pray"

But seriously, if you know of any crazy idea that might work, do tell me please.

have you opened the case to make sure the wires are still connected. Also you may try another external case since that one may be damaged. Lastly if the drive is damaged there are places that recover data from damaged hard drives for a fee.
Other than that I'm tapped out.

Yes, you should disassemble the eternal casing to get to the hard drive. For diagnostic purposes, you can hook a molex power connection coming out of your desktop computer into the hard drive and then start the computer (do not hook the power connection to the hard drive while the power cord is plugged into the computer). With the molex connection plugged in and the computer running, your hard drive should spin. If it does not spin, your hard drive is probably lost.

The screws can't be opened, they are special ones.

I'm confused you installed an internal dive into an external case and now you cannot open the case because the screws are special.

I'm sorry i was confused, you can try Senlis suggestion and see if that works, if the drive works then problem solved. If not then you have to go with the hard drive recovery option.

Well at least I will be careful next time. (I will be ready if the wall of my house falls on me for no reason)
Thanks all for your participation and help anyway :)

Someone had an external hd fall and it failed. We all thought it was toast. He got so mad, he hit the thing a few times and the head must have moved because now it is recognized.
of course he i busy moving his files elsewhere because the drive is now questionable but at least he could recover his files.
