    HI
I really need help. I am using win xp pro
MY keyboard types the wrong characters and sometimes it just won't type at all. This has happened to me before when my cat changed my language settings.
So of course that was the first thing I checked. It was fine.So then I figured virus. I scanned my computer with with avast, avg,av, ect to many to list and of course they all found none. Yes I uninstalled them before installing other anti-virus programs. None of this worked.
So I kill disked and reformated a total of 4 times yesterday .I also re installed my bios 4 times. So if i do have a virus that is doing this where is it hidding.During the windows install my keyboard works fine. I need to mention keyboard works just not on my computer. As soon as windows is done installing my keyboard gets possesed. My brain is beggining to hurt from trying to figure this out.I know there is tons of trouble shooting I should do before posting but it is hard without a keyboard. If anyone out there has any ideas on how to fix this or even what is doing this I would be extremely gratefull for any help.

Is there a different keyboard you can try? Sounds like it may be a bad keyboard if all the language settings are correct (US English).

What type of keyboard are you using, reason I ask is that some "Wireless" Keyboards will pick-up inteference from such things as Wireless Phones, Remote controls, etc and act "Crazy", second is is the keyboard connected to the USB port or the PS2........Last your Keyboard Driver may be corrupted, download driver and reinstall.........Let us know how it goes, Hope that helps, and Welcome to Major Geeks

I may have misread it to be the language settings that were fine so my bad there. But do you mean you've tried another keyboard already or you've tried the faulty keyboard on another system?

I am not thinking it to be a virus (after 4 formats and its still doing it).

How does the keyboard work in safe mode (hit F8 on startup)? If its fine in safe mode then its likely a program making it goofup. If it does the same thing in safe mode, its likely some keyboard setting or hardware related issue.

i wish it was as easy as it just being the keyboard or the driver but it has nothing to do with it cause all setting are correct it is not wireless and it is a ps2 keyboard . I am having abit of luck so far with something else.I will let you know how it turns out crossinng my fingers
