My keyboard thinks it's a mouse!

    Alright, where to start..

I currently have a Razer Tarantula gaming keyboard which think it is a Razer Lachesis mouse. It's been this way for about a year now, and I think it's about time I did something about it.

I got the keyboard as a birthday present and used it for about 3 months with no problems. But then new firmware drivers came out, and being one who likes to keep my drivers up to date, I naturally downloaded them. I also noticed there was new firmware out for my Lachesis mouse as well, so grabbed a copy of that.

Installed the keyboard firmware with no obvious problems, and got the expected 'Reboot your computer' message. I figured it was just gonna say this again once I install the mouse drivers, so I said 'No, I'll restart later.' and went on to install the mouse firmware. Still no obvious problems yet at the end of that (nothing I saw before I clicked 'Finish' and restarted the computer), but then come time to log back into the computer when it booted up, keyboard doesn't work...

Something strange I did notice straight away though.. none of the lock (caps, scroll, num lock) keys were working, but the scroll lock LED was lit up. If you are familiar at all with the Lachesis mouse, you would know that its scroll wheel is backlit. Strange... Also instead of a solid lit up Razer symbol as it usually has, the keyboard was imitating the Lachesis' pulsing bright/dim backlight for the Razer symbol. Very strange...

So I went and grabbed a PS2 keyboard, logged in, and sure enough according to device manager, I had two Lachesis Mice, and no keyboard plugged in.

From there, I was completely stuck. I emailed Razer tech support about it, but they said I would have to send it back with the receipt.
Problem is, I got it for my birthday. I think I mentioned that, but to go further- I got it for my birthday from an ex-girlfriend. I wasn't really on best terms with her even then, but I asked her about it, and for whatever reason, she couldn't track a receipt for it either.
So it got boxed back up and put on a shelf, where it has been ever since.. Until tonight. I got it down because.. well I dunno, sometimes things just magically start working after you have been convinced that you will never get to use it again.

Unfortunately, this was not this case.
    :(
So a good friend of mine directed me here telling me that if you guys can't figure something out, then it's probably worth biting the bullet and getting another keyboard.

    So... Umm...
    Any suggestions?

About a year ago when the problem occurred, you should have rolled back the keyboard driver.
I've had drivers create more problems than fix things so I have rolled back drivers a few times. Since it is a long time and lots of updates and programs have been installed, I'm not sure if a driver rollback is possible.

Did the keyboard and mouse come with drivers disks? If so, use windows add/remove hardware and remove both then install cleanly using the disks that have the drivers that worked for 3 months.
