My Laptop Keeps Shutting Down.

Hi all,

I'm using a Dell Inspiron Laptop with a Pentium 4, 2.40GHz, 256MB Ram and a 30GHz Hard drive.

The problem started about a month ago. When the laptop is fully charged it will run fine until the battery needs to be charged again. When the laptop is plugged back in it will start to charge but eventually it will just shut down and then continue to charge. The time it will stay powered on varies.
When the laptop is turned on and immeditally plugged in so it will run off the mains the same problem will eventually occur. The laptop will run for maybe 2hrs and then just shut down.

If there's anyone out there who can help..

 

Welcome to MG. While you are waiting for others to reply may I suggest that you take your laptop (with battery) to a battery specailist dealing in laptop batteries. I'm sure they can test your battery, also it's connections to the laptop. Seems to me something dodgy on the connection side. Anyone else, please step in. Bazza

Dell has a recall out for some Power Adapters, depending on when and where it was made. The problem causing the adapter to overheat causing a potential fire and electrical shock hazard.

Not sure if this would be causing your problems but it doesn't hurt to check it out.
