    I don't know if I am in the right dept. My problem is: I record from FM for the hearing impaired to my MP3. At times my recording has squelches and distortions. I am trying to find out why this is occurring. They tell me that my antenna is in my earphones. Do I need stronger earphones for better results or am I way off? Do you have any idea why this is occurring as the transmission is from the same room over fm radio. Appreciate any ideas or suggestions. THank you in advance.

    don't know much but I do know earphone antennas are real sensitive as to direction and orientation to the source , if for example you turn your head, your skull will block or distort the signal, ,, hope this helps :-D

    thank you for your reply. Does this mean that I would need a higher end earphones to correct this problem? Is there such an item(better antenna)? If there is one how would I know or what would I look for?

    FM is line-of-sight broad-cast, it will not bend (very far) around corners or over obstacles, and the earphone type are very low power, I have some that rebroadcast sound from TV/radio/ cd, , etc: and if I get to far away or turn hear sideways to broadcaster I get lots of noise, you might try a higher power sender, sender mounted higher, difference frequency, near upper end or lower end of FM, if you have florescence lights or other EM creating electronics they will also cause problems. hope that helps :yum

    so they don't make earplugs with a stronger antenna? Is that correct? I don't understand a high power sender. I don't have control over the device that is sending the fm signal so I wouldn't be able to change it.

    a longer antenna might help IF you can get to it altho FM antennas are based on wave length so there is certain optimal length/size , (35-39 inch I think) so as to a fix, , , keep closer to the broadcaster,, n DON"T turn head it turns antenna end on, need to be across :-D

    Buzin is right, because you are using an FM transmitter, your transmitter should be VERY close to your mp3 player. Extending the length of your headphones isn't really going to help has they are tuned. Higher end earphones won't help however Buzin is on the right track with interference. Any other kind of electronic device, computers, stereos, battery chargers, anything electronic will interfere with your transmission. Fluorescent lights have a big impact on radio transmissions, as does voltage drops and spikes. Also, I have gone to the lengths before as to find all FM stations in my local area, record their position and then find where the largest gap between stations is, and set my transmission to be in the middle of that gap, so you get the least interference from other stations.

    So things to try;

    1 - Keep the transmitter close to the receiver. Keep them about a metre apart, on a table or desk.
    2 - Keep the transmitter and the receiver away from other electronic devices.
    3 - If you have fluorescent lights, keep them off.
    4 - If either the transmitter or the sender are plugged into mains power, keep them plugged into the wall, rather than a powerboard.
    5 - If you want to go to extreme, record the positions of all local radio stations, and find where the largest gap between stations is, set your transmission frequency to that.

    Other than that, avoid touching or going near them while recording.
