My MS Intellimouse Won't "Snap-To!"

I have the MS Intellimouse and the "snap-to" function, (whereby the pointer automatically moves to the default button or the center of the dialog box), suddenly stopped working. The mouse works normally, but without this function, which is a real wrist and time-saver.

I've tried re-setting this function via the Control Panel's "Mouse" settings but no go. I'm running Win 98 SE, 56K dial-up modem, Pentium 3, XPS T-500, AOL ISP, Dell computer.

I've noticed that sometimes it comes back when I'm logged off of AOL and working with Windows Explorer, but it doesn't stay very long...

Can anyone help me get this function back?

    Thanx,
    Lida :)

Thanx, Matacumbie...I don't know about messing with the registry, as I'm not that skilled, but I can try a re-install of the softwear, if I can find it (lol)!

What happens if you use add/remove programs to uninstall your mouse, i.e., once it's removed how do you reinstall the program without a mouse?! Do you use "tab", "enter" and the "arrow" keys to maneuver around?

We don't want you to try something your not comfortable with concerning the registry.

Usually these articles from Microsoft are fairly safe, but I'm not positive that is what's wrong, so we will leave that decision to you.

You can try to just remove and reinstall the software and see if that solves the problem.

Steve - If I uninstall the Intellimouse, what do I use in lieu of a mouse until I can re-install it, and can you re-install the MS Intellimouse program without the use of a mouse? Sounds like it would be difficult!
    Confused,
    Lida

    Thank's Halo. :)

I wouldn't have thought of the update.

So you guys are telling me to simply download and install the update and see if that solves the problem, correct?

According to the floppy I received with my Dell Computer, I'm currently running V 2.2c (came with my PC).

Will the update be compatible with Win98 SE? Let me know before I do this, as the update may only be for those with XP!

    Thanx, fellas...

I would try Halo's suggestion. Remove the Intelimouse software, upon reboot your mouse will still work, the Operating System installs a default driver, I have intellimouse from MS but dont use the software, just the basic driver.

After you restart see if the function you are having trouble with works, if that fixes it your done. If not, download the update Halo provided and see if that solves the problem.

And yes, the update is OK for Win98 SE.

Thanx guys...I'll follow your suggestions and do an uninstall and if that doesn't work, the update. If worse comes to worst, I can always use "Go-Back" to put things back the way they were.
    Your advice is much appreciated!
    Lida :)
