My MS Word 2000 is wordless

I thought I was being original and clever with my thread title, but then i saw one almost identical in a previous thread. Oh, well... I can't remember what I had been doing with the computer, but when I went to use Word 2007, it would not respond and still won't. I used the diagnostic tool, I rebooted, I scanned with MSE--all to no avail. I do not have a Word 2007 disk or a MS Office 2007 disk. I sure could use some help.
If I can't find out how to fix my problem, what do you think of me doing one of these?
    1. I have an Office 2000 disk and I'm using 2000 on my desktop computer. As I remember, when I installed it I chose the apps which I wanted installed. I chose them all, but have found that I use only Word and Excel. Could I use that disk on my laptop and install just Word 2000 and Excel?
2.Install OpenOffice and use just the word processor and spreadsheet parts?
    3. The MS Works that came with Office 2007 is working just fine. Should I just settle for it as long as it works okay?
I'm just a home user who probably doesn't need all the bells and whistles that come with Office, although I do like Excel.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Confused here. You have Office 2000 but Word 2007?

MSWorks does not come with Office 2007. Your computer might have come with MSWorks and a trial version of Office 2007. Did you purchase Office 2007? If you did not, the trial ended and that is why it is not responding.

Sorry for the confusion. I have Office 2000 and Word 2000 on my desktop computer, and the disk that came with them.

I have Office 2007 and Word 2007 on my laptop. I do not have the disk for these.

You used the Word Diagnostic tool and it found no problems?

To Sachs2: Yes...I think. It was either Word tool or Office tool. It was an option and I can't remember which one.

To handygal: The computer is 20 months old. I haven't tried any of those solutions yet.

The computer is 20 months old. That means the 90 day trial of Office 2007 has expired; that's why it is unresponsive.
If you do not have an Office 2007 disk, you do not have a key for the program. It will not function until you purchase either the Office 2007 program or maybe just a valid key. (I'm not sure if just buying a key will work on an expired trial version).

I purchased a computer in Oct. 2009 with both Works and a trial version of Office 2007.
I bought a boxed copy of Office 2007 Home and Student edition at a local brick and mortar store and converted my trial version to a working version before it expired by following the instructions in the box to input the key.

I had no idea that the Word that came with Office 2007 was a trial version with an expiration date. I sure didn't notice any warnings of an impending expiration date.

Do you know if this mean that all the other apps, such as Excel and Power Point, will be expiring, too?

I'd really like to try OpenOffice. Is there any reason I should remove Office 2007 before installing OpenOffice?

I'm not sure that it's because of an expired version unless you only started using it in the last 3 months or so. All of the programs would expire at the same time. It would warn you every time that you open it that it's a trial or starter version and that you have X number of days (used to say X number of times) to use this program before needing to purchase a key HERE (insert microsoft link). They are very good at making you click past that window trying to push you to buy it so I can't imagine you wouldn't have seen that.

OpenOffice is nice. No reason to uninstall Office to use it, I've had both at the same time. Just have to tell the files to open in OpenOffice instead of MS Office.

I would still try to fix the problem with the link I gave you but I don't like computers to beat me.

Have you looked at Microsoft Works which is not a trial and will work on your computer? The "document" part of that program called Microsoft Works Word Processor might do what you need without installing additional software.

To handygal: None of those solutions you suggested seemed to apply to my problem. Thanks for trying to help.
To plodr: I have Works v9 and used it until I got Word with Office 2007. It's okay and I can use it if necessary. I think I'll give OpenOffice a try just to see what it's like. Thanks for your help.
Thanks to all the others who responded to my call for help.
