My Network

Hi all,

I am making this thread because i am putting a wired network in my home (because im sick of wireless) and i want to make sure that i have everything right and i am buying the right stuff.

Firstly, to make things easier, i have drawn up a diagram of the network i am planning to have: MY NETWORK

Now, the explanation in words:

I am planning to have to cable internet connection going into a linksys wired router (which will be downstairs) and going from the router will be: A desktop pc (desktop pc 1) which will be about 1 metre away, then there will be a 25metre cat5e cable going upstairs into a room containing another desktop pc (desktop pc 2), a laptop, and a ps2 (with network adaptor.) So instead of running 3 cables up to the room, i will just run 1 and then use the 4 port switch which is built into my old netgear wireless router, to connect them all. At the same time i will still use the wireless on the router to access the internet anyware else in the house with my laptop (as i am currently doing.)

I am confident that this will work, but not 100%. I'm particularly worried as to whether i will still be able to use the wireless with it acting as a switch aswell. it doesnt matter if i have to buy a standalone switch to do the job, its just that i already have this router and its a switch aswell, and still having the wireless would be convenient.

so i was wondering if you guys can find any problems....and clear up any doubts i have?

It should work. My only concern is your wireless router being used as a switch/Access Point. I have never done this, I have a Cisco Access Point, but I did find this link:
