Hey guys its been a long time since I visited MG but I wanted to run something by you guys. I'm building a new computer or buying and putting together in the next couple months. I already put together what I wanted to get, and was wondering if you could tell me what else I need to get. Also should I go ahead and get vista while I'm at it? And if I get vista will I be able to run XP games on it (F.E.A.R. Quake 4)?

I wasn't sure what I should/should not include so I just put everthing I'm getting for it. I do have a cd/dvd drive already.

why dont you get a sata harddrive?

from what i understand intels core 2 duos beat amd in every aspect, feel free to correct me.. with benchmarks... but if you prefer amd stick with it..
and sata provides higher data rates, a thinner cable, and its just over all newer.
as for a sound card maybe something from creative?

    right on man, good stuff

Yes, Intel beats AMD in both price and performance. However, that is apretty decent barebones deal though I prefer to pick all my own components (its up to u)

Creative makes the best soundcards, there is a guy in the For Sale forum selling an X-Fi XtremeGamer for $60, his name is Sean4000 so talk to him if u want it. He also has some 250gig western digital hard drives for really cheap too (im prolly gonna get one soon too) If you want to buy new then pretty much any X-Fi card will be good for u.

Id also get your stuff from Newegg.com, they tend to have the lowest prices around. Ive bought from them numerous times, they are awesome

Why not get one single good video card? you can get an 8600GTS for less than $220 and then add another later if you ever need it. I believe this is the fastest 8600GTS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150226

as for the cooler, do you even need an aftermarket cooler? if you do need one (or just want one) the Zalman 9500/9700 are VERY good and relatively affordable. I wouldnt see this as necessary though unless you plan on overclocking. Actually, since its OEM it doesnt come with its own cooler and I dont feel like erasing all that or trying to reword it lol. Id go with the Zalman though.

It kinda seems like you're rushing to get this system built, maybe im wrong, but just take your time, do some research, pick good parts, and you'll be happy you spent the extra time in the end.

hopefully im not missing anything, its late so im a bit....out of it I should say? haha. good luck with the build, its coming along nicely

I doubt ur gonna need 2 of those PCI coolers, most people dont have any and those that do have one, there isnt really a reason for 2.

I think you should reconsider the video card choice as well. An x1600 isnt a bad card but its not powerful enough nor fast enough to take advantage of 512mb of RAM; they just slap the extra RAM on there to jack up the price. Again, I recommend an 8600GTS. DX10 capabilities and will far outperform an x1600. this one is only $5 more: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3041061&CatId=1560

everything else looks good though i wouldnt plan on being able to OC that memory at all if u were thinking about that. It will be fine for anything else though

Everything else looks fine, nice build. Interesting choice to go with microATX, it will be nice it you need to move it around

dude that freaking card you suggested looks freaking insane. but isn't a 512 better than 256? i don't get it but thats the way it would seem to an average person. but yeah i'm getting that bad boy. XD. oh and the cooling fans are mostly cosmetic, since they glow blue and the 2 pci slots are in the back i figured just throw 2 in there and make it shine, plus the fan controller i'm getting has 4 knobs so i might as well fill em all. oh and one other thing, i don't know much about core 2 duo, but the one i'm getting is a 1.86ghz i think, will that be able to handle any high-performance games?

for sure, the e6300 is a very nice processor

if you're getting the fans for cosmetics why not just pick up some cold cathodes? Ive got the bigger version of that fan controller but its silver w/ green lights. The cool thing is that It comes with 2 cold-cathodes (light tubes if u didnt know, kinda like neon tubes) and it doubles as a light controller. here's 2 UV cathodes: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=86137&CatId=1460

it looks really cool when u have UV reactive parts like cables or fans, or like mine, UV reactive coolant in my liquid cooling setup.
