Okay. I fired up my new laptop today. It works great, but there are three problems: 1. The function keys don't respond as expected. For example, Alt+F4 increases brightness rather than closing an application. 2. I need to do a lot of customizing and installing. And 3. I need to port all my settings and internet passwords to the new laptop. The second is purely my issue to solve, but I could use help with the first and third. The laptop's brand is Acer, and its model is Aspire 3.

You have to post more than Acer Aspire 3. There are lots of Aspire 3 models. All with different hardware. In order to get the proper software for your function keys to work, we have to go to the Acer site for you exact model.

I never "port" settings and internet passwords. I manually do the settings and type in usernames and passwords.

You need to use the Fn key on your keyboard in conjunction with each F key to to use the key's alternate function. You van usually choose which set of functions is the default.

I looked on the laptop for the model # but only found what I told you. How do I choose which set of function keys to use by default?
