I don't know what's up with it, every dvd I try and play is either choppy or it just freezes. I've updated the firmware, I've defragged, I've virus scanned, I've checked for background programs that may be bogging down the performance.. and nothing. I just bought this thing a couple of months ago, I can't figure out whats wrong. Help me!

Thanks for reading, any advice or suggestions are helpful.

No updates found, could it be something to do with dual layer dvd's? I;ve noticed it started acting up when I was playing dual layer dvds..

    A few Q's
The drive worked fine at first?
    What's your system spec's?
    Are you Ocing?
What programs/utilities do you use for DVD burning/viewing?

I have a 3550a works great, I'm very pleased with it.

If the drive worked good at first, try cleaning it with cleaning cd's etc.
Try uninstalling the dvd drive and Ide driver in Device manager.
Make sure the Ide ribbon connecting to your drive is not bent or anything.
    Try reformatting your harddrive.
    Try diffrent Dvd players.
If all does not work it's probaly a defective drive.I have built 3 personal computers and so far the first thing to go on each computer were my dvd/cd drives ,it's bullshit, but dvd drives never last long.

You mentioned its "New" if it is send it back to NEC for a replacment.
