I ain't the Cray 7, but for me it will be plenty fast. I am upgrading from an AMD 4000+ with one gig of ram.

    Here it is:

    Athlon64 X2 5600+ Socket AM2 Dual Core Processor
Asus M2V-MX SE VIA K8M890 Motherboard
2 Gigabytes of Super Talent PC6400 800Mhz SPD Memory
    Echo Star 680 Watt PSU

    All that for around $270.

I know I could buy a few better components, such as a motherboard and PSU but I was on a budget. I will be using my recently upgraded video card which is an 8800GT. I can say this about the 8800GT - it breathed some temporary life into my old system which had a BFG 7900GT. I have never seen a video card make that much of a difference in a setup before.

I am upgrading from an AMD 64 4000+ with 1 gig of ram. I am sure the improvements will be at the least - obvious. I am going to slip a uestion in from another thread here regarding Vista. I am contemplating purchasing Vista instead of reinstalling XP. However, I am unsure of what version to purchase. Will Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 Upgrade do the trick? Is it an upgrade from Xp only? What about a reinstall after a hardware upgrade?

I was going to build everything last night, but I have been sick for a few days and I want all my wits about me. So I might put it together tonight. The wife says this one has to last me a few years. Wish me luck! :major

It means that you need to have a listed previous version of Windows on the computer in order to install the Upgrade version. I had to buy a full version because I was out of installs for my old XP. I was :mad

I could have saved big bucks. Like I said, back in the day you could buy an upgrade version, pop in the old version during install for a check, and continue on installing the new version. This might have been an upgrade option from 95 to 98, I cannot remember exactly. It did save some cash!
