My New Windows 10 Laptop Just Automatically Updated Despite Me Having...

never connected it to the Internet. How is that possible? Where did it get the updates if it didn't download them? If they were already on the computer when I bought it, then how come the update process didn't happen when I booted it up for the first time yesterday? It just suddenly happened today and managed to re-enable a telemetry setting I'd disabled with ShutUp10.

Ya mean like a hotspot ot something? Well I was at home at the time, just in my apartment, so I don't see how that could be. And the network icon stayed greyed out as far as I remember.

 

Sounds quite possible to me. My laptop can see several neighbour networks up to 30-40m away, though you would have to click on one to try to connect. Can yours see other networks, and are any open?

 

It can see about 18-20, in fact, but they're all secured.

 

I just saw when I clicked on the network icon a button for mobile hotspots. So I clicked on it assuming it was ike a tab and I'd just see a list of nearby hotspots but instead it just automatically connected me to one. I had to click it again to disconnect. Why don't they make these things clearer?! I never would have clicked it if I knew it was gonna automatically connect me!
