My Non Ecc Memory Won't Work On My Asus H81m-k Motherboard But Will On Others I Have?

    I have a few non ecc memory sticks ranging from 4gb (2x2gb) 1066MHz to 8gb (2x4gb) 1600MHz and even 16gb (2X16gb):

    4gb (2x2gb): Micron 2GB DDR3 1060MHz Desktop Memory MT16JTF25664AZ-1G1F1
    8gb (2x4gb): Crucial Sport Ballistix DDR3 1600MHz desktop memory BLS2KIT4G3D1609DS1S00
    16gb (2x8gb): Kingston HyperX Genisis DDR3 1600MHz KHX18C10K2/16

When I tried the above memory in my Asus H81M-K build DIMM A1 slot didn't see show any ram (as though it was empty). The DIMM B1 did show ram and allowed the computer to boot up. When I tried ram in just the DIMM A1 slot the computer won't boot as though there was no ram.

I sent the motherboard back to asus with an RMA and got it back with a statement the tech couldn't duplicate the symptom. When I called they asked me if any of the memory I tried was on the asus qauality vendors list. Well, non of the above ones were.

I've tried these same memory sticks in the following motherboards and they worked fine.
    Gigabyte LGA 1156g GA-H55M-S2V rev. 1.3 motherboard
    Asus B85M-E motherboard
    Gigabyte H81M-DS2V

I finally was able to try the following memory which is on the Asus Quality Vendors List
    8gb (2x4gb): G.Skill TridentX series DDR3 2400MHz F3-2400C10D-8GTX
I still had the same problem with DIMM A1 slot not showing any memory.

I've since got another RMA and have sent it back explaining that this time I did try memory from their QVL list and still had the same issue. Why the heck does the Asus H81M-K motherboard seem so fickle with memory compatibility? What on a motherboard controls what non ecc memory will work with it.

I know it's wordy, but I wanted to explain my dilemma and try to understand more about memory issues. Thanks, Mcduke

Hi, did you ever solve this one?

Was it something random like paired ECC ram or dual slots 1,3 1,2 to make a bank so it had to be populated with ECC for them to detect, or there was a combo of non ECC and standard ECC ram that made the detection in slot one not find it?

    :)
