My "opinion" on locking secrets

My "OPINION" on locking the thread that has secrets for faster folding or what ever it is is that it's selfish! This isn't a race with a million dollar prize at the finish line. It's not a quest for world domination it's about trying to find cures for birth defects etc... If by chance MG has figured out a way to speed things up it ought to be shared with everybody on every team, that little bit of an extra boost might be the cure for a terrible ailment. This isn't about winning this is about joining together for a common cause. If in the process we can get bragging rights great but all this cloak and dagger he said she said crap just cheapens what we're donig here.
This is again my opinion and we all know what opinions are like. I was wrong one other time, i think it was back in 62 and this may be the second time. If I do visit the strategy thread I'll keep what I see to myself, it's not my place to divulge anything of somebody elses.

My opinion is that if the users stats show commitment then they should be let in but hey what do I know I'm new around here.

You are of course entitled to your opinion mgrist but I do disagree for the most part. It's more than just the 'cause' that gets people to crunch...it's the competition with others....the planning, the strategy, the team camaraderie. We followed suit a long time ago and had our strategy forum...and what was the result of that you wonder? We became recognized as a team to contend with which in turn not only encouraged our team members to do that much more it did the same for the teams we were competing against...it increased the dumps not just for our team but for our rival teams...which obviously put that much more....more than there would have been without the 'competition and strategy' toward whatever cause we were crunching for.

So, while we get to have some strategy planning, just like all the other teams do the end result is that all the team competition increases output and benefits the cause.

 

Can I just explain why we got the "secret" forum.

Its to build on the team spirit, and help us get organised. Yes, you are right, the whole project is about finding the cure to somthing, but by being organised we compute faster and we're more efficient.

We set ourselves a goal not long ago: to get to the top 100 teams. We are capable of it, but we need to pull together to achive it. It was never the intention to lock other team members out of the our discussions, but as we are doing a "trial" right now, we only want a few people who have the time and effort to commit to helping us reach that goal.

Also, if we find a way to make folding faster, we WILL make sure it is freely available. There is no point hiding that. But what we won't publish publically is our precise plans on how we are going to reach that goal as a team.

Right now the whole tactics discussion forum is being met by a lot of negetive feelings, it might be that it just won't work out, which is a shame because we've done it before and it was a lot of fun!

 

I understand and I respect that.It's cool with me.Just remember that some of us guys and gals on the outside may have some secrets of our own that could help production as well

Anyone who shows commitment to the team (as stratcatprowlin says) will be allowed access to the forum, sooner or later. It is not the aim to have an elitist few in that forum to hide their secrets away from the rest of the team, it might seem that way at the moment because it is growing, and we picked the more productive members to join us first.

Nobody who is REALLY part of the team is going to be "left on the outside".

Ok give me a couple of weeks to get my production up to show I'm dedicated and I certainly will.

Edit: I will be adding another rig within a week too.

 

We are all working towards helping for a cause, just some work harder for it. Shouldn't complain if they are doing more than there part to get somewhere. Even is its leaving some people in the dark, like me

I agree with you there, mew. We have a gotten a lot of new members to the team this week, it would be nice to have more banter going on here to show them that we actually do like each other.

You'd think with all the folders that are here that there would be plenty of trash talk. Time for a new thread to see if we can maybe get a little chatter going. As I've said a thousand times I do this for fun, for a good race what ever, so lets have some fun. Lets see what should be the name of the new thread??? How about "Hey putzs, post here!" Maybe not, lets see how about hummmmm " lets hear the chatter you putzes" Hummmm Maybe I ought to drop the chatter part"????

Srry mgrist. Been very busy with the upcoming wedding (April 9th), and new development efforts (switching from M to VB .net 2003). I'll try to stay with the program. It looks to me like we've got a few excellent new team members. Gotta love it!
