Man does this look like the best site to get tech help.
Here is my problem: My operating system (win me) will not start-up. No picture , no sound , only a steady sound from my hp pavillion 7867 desktop piece of poop. Can anyone help?

    Cheers
    Billy

is this steady sound a beep, a series of beeps? does anything display on the screen when you hit power?

Is that steady sound you are referring to a solid beeping noise? Describe the sound you are hearing, and is it coming from the little speaker inside your box, or is it coming from the speakers, or from somewhere else? Be as specific as you can.

Edit: Hehe, same wavelength, Zyto! :)

The sound is just the fan. The OS system just will not start but I can turn on the computer and if i hold the button long enough I can shut it off. This has happened before but I forgot how I fixed it.

Do you see the POST screen?
That is when the computer shows the BIOS info and detects teh keyboard and HD(s) and CDROM(s)

I would have your power supply checked out

Good idea, seem to remember that being a problem of mine once, got a new power supply unit and hey presto it came back to life.
