My PC is probably dying...

Novice question again...

I have a Gateway GM5474....I think its about 6 years old....upgraded it to Windows 7 Home Premium when that software was released.

This has been a real workhorse....no gaming or other intense activity, just paying online bills, storing photos and mp3s, kids surfing the web.

This PC has now begun to act up...shutting down randomly, not booting up all the time, blue screen of death, etc.

I've run a bunch of different software programs...Advanced System Care PRO, Glary, CC Cleaner, a few Malware programs, ran CHKDSK...sometimes it seems fine, other times it craps out.

Someone told me the MOBO or Hard Disk may be dying.

I know its time to upgrade, but before I pull the plug on this machine...any other diagnostic or fix ideas? This has been a great machine and I hate to see it go.

Six years same hard drive, yes that would be the first. But also if you do not have a surge protector that it is plugged in, or leave it on for long periods, the Mother board can also be going out.

At this time, you can get a decent i5 or even latest AMD CPU for under $525 before tax.

 

Hi my friend , you can push F8 at start up going to Advanced Boot Options to select Disable automatic restart on system failure

Tried the F8 technique....system froze.

I know I can buy a superior machine for a great price nowadays, but its just hard to put the final bullet in this mule's head.
