My PC just crashed on me

My PC has just crashed. I had just right clicked the icon for ‘Spyware Terminator’ in the icon tray at the bottom right-hand corner of the Windows screen. When the menu popped up I left clicked the option EXIT and the computer restarted itself. When my PC had restarted a dialogue box opened the title “Microsoft Windows”. Then there was the following statement: “The system has recovered from a serious error.” Then it said: “A log of this error has been created.”

Then: “Please tell Microsoft about this problem. We have created an error report that you can send to help us improve Microsoft Windows. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. To see what data this error report contains, click here.”

Then obviously I had the option of sending an error report or not to send one. I sent one.

The data contained in the error report was:

    “Error signature: BCCode : c2 BCP1 : 00000007 BCP2 : 00000CD4 BCP3 : 04030401
    BCP4 : E22A2A90 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 768_1”

The following was in the error report:
    C:\DOCUME~1\MARK~1.HOM\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf761.dir00\Mini041708-01.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\MARK~1.HOM\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERf761.dir00\sysdata.xml

I have checked for anything in Event Viewer and I found the following

The event was a red warning event

The date was 17/04/2008 and the time was 17:18:14 (i.e. when my PC crashed).

    The source: System Error
    Category: (102)
    Event: 1003
    User: N/A

    Would you please:

    1) Advise as to what happened/may have happened
    2) Tell me what steps I need to follow to deal with any problem I may have
    3) What I can do in order to prevent this from re-occurring

I would be happy to supply any other info required for you to assist me.

    Hi mark :)
In the first instance could you please remove Spy ware Terminator from your system if you can so as to rule that out ? And then let me know if your system is then stable

I could remove Spyware Terminator but I do suspect it is this software that causes the problem because it has happened before and it has only ever happened when I carry out the steps previously described to close spyware terminator.

The system seems stable, it only happens when I close spyware terminator and then only intermittently, not everytime

    Hi mark :)
Well that would mean that Spyware Terminator was clashing with some of your other software. Your best bet would be to chose another malware program like super anti spy ware or another from our list here

    Hi

Thanks for that. I use SUPER AntiSpyware Free Edition to run scans but it doesn't provide realtime protection. Of the list you signposted me to do you any of them that provide realtime protection and gree. Yes, I know I'm too mean to pay for one:p

Thanks for the advice but I'm not too sure that I want to rely on Microsoft protecting my PC.

    To: thesmokingun

No, there wasn't any link in the error report.

    Thanks

I'll give that a try as I use Comodo firewall.
