    Hi

What you will need to do is to see what application is causing this as its likely a 3rd party application is, can be a Defrag app or a Antivirus/Security app, so first off boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and see if your PC works ok with no lag.

the if its ok it highlights a 3rd party app as the cause and from here you need to do a bit of troubleshooting in that you need to use msconfig and the startup tab and disable everything, then reboot, is your PC running ok?

If so then enable one item at a time and reboot and check that your PC is working ok, if it is enable another startup application and reboot (I know its long winded but is best way to trace an errant application) and check the PC again if ok enable another one etc etc

Could also use Process Explorer once the lag happens and see what application is using your CPU up.

Also have you scanned for malware? its a possible.

    Hi

Too many security applications can cause this also so only have one installed while testing the cause of this, as their maybe an interaction with KAV and XofSpy that has them both trying to scan the same files at the same time, thus giving you a lag of sorts.

Malware can be the cause of many things and speed issues in a PC is one, could run the below as written and then start a new thread in our malwre forum and see what our experts think.

Also try not to over use application like System Machanic to fix this as they may cause more issues, start with the basics of msconfig and the starting apps, Safe Mode and checking what process is causing this.

I have almost an identical system and I run AVG 9.0 Professional. Even when it's doing a full scan, it DOES NOT slow down my PC at all. I never even know a scan is running unless I happen to notice the little AVG icon in the system tray.
I try real hard to minimize the number of things that I let run in the background. In fact, I shut down a whole list of "Services" that I don't use and don't want running in the background. I only have five icons in my system tray, unlike some other PC's I've seen where the system tray extends half way across the screen.:cry

Unlike others who post to this and other forums, I've never seen a BSOD, time Lag or Crash on my windows 7 Ultimate 64 install. Since my hardware is so common place, I have to conclude that my success with Win-7 is all in the way I set it up and run it.
One rule I follow, is "if you don't absolutely NEED it, then shut if off".
Win-7 itself is big enough, without running a lot of peripheral BS along with it.
Don't be like the guy with the 1/4 ton pickup that drives around with 1/2 ton of crap in the bed all the time.
