My pc "locks up"

After a bit, my pc wont do any thing, I cant open any programs or anything, I ran ad-aware, spybot, pestpatrol, a2, avg. Just can't seem to find the problem. Any help would be great. Thanks, Bryan

 

Are you running pestpatrol and AVG at the same time? This will often cause conflicts which eminate as lock-ups, freezes, and very slow running. I also noted in another thread that you had a virus in your virus vault. Did this get caught coming in or was it found in your pc? If found in your pc it may be still active in system restore. Suggest disable sys restore, rescan/clean, re-enable sys restore. I'm no expert, but this has caused me numerous headaches in the past.

 

btw, keep in mind it could also be a hardware issue. It might be locking up because your processor is overheating. I've come across similar situations where the PC will work for a while but then start to lock up due to overheating issues.

 

I don't run avg and pest patrol at the same time, why is that though? The virus was on my other machine. And I got it from an e-mail, avg sent it to the virus vault. I will do a system restore to yesterday, because it just started tonight.

I agree with Bear about the possible heat issue. Check that your CPU and video card fans are still spinning and not gunked up with dust, and look in BIOS setup for your temp readings.

 

I just finished reloading xp on my pc. I just use this one for testing. Thanks for the help everyone.
