My PC "Loses" Internet Broadband Connection

    I've got a new HP Pavillion a500n PC running Win XP SP2, which is fully patched. I'm running Zone Alarm 5.5.062.011, Norton AV 2004, and Spybot S&D 1.3.1TX as a "security suite".

    From time to time, this machine seems to "lose" its ability to utilize my broadband internet connection (Comcast cable modem service via a Netgear WGR614 v.3 wired/wireless router... this particular machine is connected via wired ethernet cable to the Netgear router). Usually, this happens when the computer sits unused for an unknown period of time... if I stay active on an internet connection, I don't seem to have a problem maintaining an internet connection. I have 2 other PCs (different makes/models) running WinXP SP2 also connected to the Netgear and I don't have problems maintaining internet connections.

    When the PC "loses" its connection, I've tried using "ipconfig" which indicates that I still have an IP address. I haven't tried to ping anything as I'm not too familiar with that command. The only way I can seem to re-establish my internet connection is to reboot the computer.

    Below is a log file from HiJackThis. I've also attached a zip file containing a Hardware inventory from Everest Home Edition (I hope this isn't too much information). Can anyone see anything that might be causing my internet connection to "die"?

    I have the same problem as you do, only my provider is Charter. The problem only occurs if I leave the modem on for a couple of days without turning any of my computers on. It generally takes 20-30 mins. to correct, as I have to power down the modem and switch ( I don't use a router ) several times, and the problem corrects itself. Hope this helps! :)
