My pc problems... help

Hi everyone, my first post... anyway

few days ago my pc was working fine,

Friday i recieved and installed my new mouse (logitech mx510)
and did a nortan live update and virus scan.

after then for some reason Nortan Internet security was not showing in the taskbar when i started windows, and wouldn't open at all.

also my pc was running unbelivably slowly.

after disabeling nortan from startup my pc was faster, but not as fast as it usually is, playing games is still impossible and everything takes 5 times longer than it should do.

i dont think its virus/spyware as i have done scans (which took for ever)
i have defragmented and emptied recycle bin and temp files.

any ideas guys ?

my vital statistics are:
pentium 4 2.4Ghz
256 ram
80 gig and 20 gig ide hard drive
geforce 4 mx440
750k broadband

 

Sounds like a virus/worm to me.

agreed. Some viruses actually target specific Anti-Virus software. Norton, being a popular AV, is targeted more than others. The viruses are actually able to disable Norton AV and have their way with your pc.

 

thanx guys, that virus scan found a trojan, which i obviously deleted

nortan still not working though, pc isn't noticibly faster either.

 

If key Norton files were deleted, it may need to be reinstalled.

 

ok, i'll start hunting for the cd

and i'v got zone alarm running untill i can get nortan firewall back on.
