My pc sucks

Every time i startup, about 5000000 programs do as well. i dont know how to turn em off in XP Home (i just got it). How does one do this?
Also, when u try to uninstall my mcaffee, my pc freezes. its 7.0 pro i think. wussup?!

to turn off starting apps etc start-run-type msconfig then the start-up tab
uncheck the ones you dont want starting use the list here for reference

i would also go here and trim your services list
