Well, it can be purple if you want it to ;) Its got an RGB array of LEDs which lets you choose what colour you want it to be - or you can have it fade through all of the colours :)

I think it's great. You have a real talent for design. Simple, but elegant and modern, all at the same time.

    Thanks everyone :)

It will be able to be dimmed - I'm going to use a commercial RGB controller chip which has 2 interface buttons which will be mounted on the casing at the bottom, which lets you change palettes, lets you freeze the colour, or lets you dim the light :) And the chip only costs a fiver! Bargain! :D

Now all I need to do is get the paperwork out the way and get the parts ordered - :)

Oh and the predicted cost of the product: under £30 (with a profit target of %30, so manufacture would need to be £20).

Expect to see it in ThinkGeek or the gadget shop soon, for £29.99 :p

    Excellent :)

I would also be tempted to approach some of the big retailers like Ikea, M&S, Homebase etc to see if they are interested in your design? Unless you want to start your own design & manufacture company up selling various products.... easy quick money is on selling ideas to larger companies.

Haha, I'd much rather get the A-Level first ;)

Maybe once I've got the A-Level, I might consider trying to market this thing for real. Maybe.

Good Luck on the A-level ( I'm not sure what that is, but a grade or ranking of some sort).

I'd buy one - but how big is it ? And can you run it off a USB port ;)

  19. goldfish

    goldfish Lt. Sushi.DC

Haha, theoretically, yes you could! It takes 5V DC (not 9V as I previously said), so potentially I could make a USB power supply adaptor if I really wanted to ;)

A-Level is the qualification that I'm studying for, in this case Product Design.
