hi.. someone told me that I should post on these forums with my sound issues, since no one is able to help me! :( hopefully someone here can.

I have a custom built pc I built in 2008.
Umm, I am kind of computer hardware ignorant...so I'm not sure exact names or specs.

    Windows 7, 64bit
    nvidia nforce 650i sli mobo
    nvidia geforce 9600 gfx
    intel dual core 3.0ghz
    8gb ram
    350gb/350gb/500gb hard drives

I have 2 separate sound jack sets. Umm one is an independent card that has fried. It is a c-media 3dx or something. It's kind of old.

But the other jacks are my mobo jacks. In the past (when I had vista) they worked fine. But I started using the c-media card and now it's just static and choppy noise and doesn't play much, so I decided to switch back to my mobo sound.

In the past I used realtek drivers. I installed the hd audio drivers from realtek and my sound would work fine and dandy. But now when I install them, they don't even detect my mobo jacks.

I've uninstalled the drivers, reinstalled them, I updated my mobo drivers, I've tested several different sets of speakers and headphones. They all work with my c-media card, granted it is very staticy regardless what I use.

Am I doing something wrong or could something be wrong with my mobo?

Could this account for why my computer has been excessively sluggish, slow and laggy even after formatting all of my hard drives? (My system has been getting slower and slower for at least 6 months, so I know it isn't windows 7. I installed windows 7 because I thought maybe vista was the cause of the sluggishness.)

Ummm please help address my sound and possibly my sluggish computer issues.. :)

    thanks a bunch..~

    Hi

Will start with the Audio driver issue first, and while you have a nForce 650i motherboard, who is the maker of this motherboard (ASUS, Gigabyte etc)?

Have you just re-installed Windows 7?

In Device Manager what hardware if any has yellow ! marks next to them?

To get us some specs please follow the below, as written.

Hi, I have no idea the make of the mobo so I assume that is in the everest report.
I followed those instructions and attached the txt.

Umm, in device manager there are no yellow ! marks.
I have reinstalled Windows 7 and formatted my hard drives twice since January.

If you could make help me diagnose why my computer is so miserably slow that would be better than the sound.

I mean, I can't even open multiple tabs in firefox or run games anymore. and in my opinion my computer specs are really good. :(

honestly I have no idea WHO to take my computer to IRL even if I had that kind of money. Geek squad? I dunno.

    But anyway, thanks.

    Hi

Its fine on the mobo, the log helps for this and you have an EVGA nForce 680i not that there are many drivers listed for it for Win7 apart from Chipset.

but ok lets see about your slowness for a start, drivers are a start and no yellow ! marks is a good sign, slowness in a PC can be from many things mostly its due to the amout of startups (these are software applications that start with your PC on boot) that you have as well as what security software you have installed.

Your specs are fine for Win7 CPU is good and 2GB ram is fine.

So best option is to let me know what security software you have installed, please name all if possible, the likes of Antivirus, Firewall and Anti-malware?

So download and run What In Startup and once run click View > HTML Report All Items and then click File > Save As and choose from the dropdown *save as type* TXT then attach the log as per this HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

    thanks.

Umm ok I have malware bytes, microsoft security essentials, windows firewall/protection and I did have avg but the trial expired and I never redownloaded it. I also have c cleaner, and I do a disk defrag about once a month. is that too often or not often enough??

I don't have many start up programs, I disabled most of them cause of the slowness.

also I run anti virus and malware every week and I rarely have viruses but of course have lots of random adware cookies and temp files.

    Hi

Best to list the startups as you never know if any of them "may" conflict!?

Do run the AVG removal tool, just in case some parts of AVG are still on your PC the tool is HERE

No defrag is fine, but with NTFS (the file system) it doesnt fragment alot so unless you are installing and uninstalling multiple applications once a month or even once every six months is fine for defrag.

    Hi..

Is there an easy way to export my start up programs into a text file to attach or do I type them all?

I think my computer's issues are hardware related. There is nothing software wise that would cause my pc to act like this except for viruses and massive amounts of adware, which I do not have.

What are the steps I should take to determine if indeed it is hardware and what should I do to fix these issues?

PS: I gave up trying to get my mobo sound to work and just reinstalled my crappy c-media drivers.

    Hi

Yes I gave you steps in post #4 bottom paragraph on how to export the startup list, just follow that.

When you disabled many of your startups, what did you use to achieve this? if msconfig, please go back and enable them all for now, then run the above to list the startups.

Have you been editing your Services list at all, using somsthing like BlackVipers guide?

If you boot into safe mode does does yourPC run, better, same or worse?

Hi, I didn't even see that at the bottom of your post.

When in safe mode, it runs the same if not worse.

I don't edit my services or anything.

Should I just take my computer to someone?
I think it's my mobo or gfx..

If I had $1500 laying around I would just build a brand new one since now my stuff is semi-outdated.

I attached my startup list, which really has nothing of interest on it.

    Hi Desirai

Yeah new PCs are great to have, but at you say they dont come cheap, but lets see if we can narrow this down and looking over your startup list, it is full of junk that doesnt need in reality to run at startup, they just suck up ram and CPU time and give you no benefits.

So lets disable some and see if that helps (personally I always delete startups I dont need, but maybe best for you to just disable for now and see if it affects anything)

Download and run StartupCPL Standalone this version works with Windows 7 the installer version does not, so just unzip and save to say your Documents folder in a folder called Startup Manager, and run it, then once run untick the following:

    Adobe Acrobat Speed Launcher
    Adobe ARM
    Adobe Reader Speed Launcher
    Adobe_ID0ENQBO
    AdobeCS4ServiceManager
Aim (can run this when you need it, not needed at boot)
    Cmaudio8768GX
    Cmaudio8768GX64
    CmPCIaudio
    Google Update
googletalk (can run this when you need it, not needed at boot)
    msnmsgr (which is MSN Messenger)
RtHDVCpl (its your realtek sound menu, but this can be accessed via Control Panel)
Skype (can run this when you need it, not needed at boot)
    SunJavaUpdateSched
uTorrent (can run this when you need it, not needed at boot, this one will and can eat ram up)
    WinampAgent

reboot and see how your PC runs, by comparison your startup has 23 and mine has 5, which even one of those in Windows Mobile Device Center could be removed, leaving 4.

One thing curious with your sound is you have what looks like two drivers installed Realtek and Cmedia, will need to look into if both are needed.
