I have a Dell XPS with a sound blaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card. My sound just disappeared yesterday. There was no new software put in and the speakers are connected and plugged in. There is no sound from anything, CD's, mp3's on my harddrive, system sounds, etc....nothing.

There is a diagonosis that I can run on the sound card, it fails a test called "SoundFont", there is no documentation about what this is. There is a "Begin Fix" button in the diagnosis, when I click it, it says it fixed the problem, however, if I run the diagnosis again the same test fails.

When I choose anything in the creative volume control such as speaker settings, I get the message "Unable to change the sound device to your selected device".

I've reinstalled the driver with no luck. It seems to me that another program has control of the soundcard but I can't figure out what program that is. Any help would be great. Thanks.

    Do you use Real Player?

It set's my sound to zero after using it.

I figured it out! Somehow, there are two drivers on my system for this and the driver the system was using wouldn't work. Probably one of my kids messing around.
