A long time ago.. about six months, I was browsing though my media files one night. I open a folder, and this... thing.... this thing......
This thing is the opposite of all that is good. If I beleived in god, this thing would be my satan, it would be a demon that came up from the depths of hell and started poking me in the center of my chest repeatedly untill I shot myself with a spoon. I don't know how you go about shooting yourself with a spoon, but thats what I would feel like doing nonetheless. So I notice it in the bottom left corner of my screen, and it immediately draws my attention down towards that area. I think, "Wierd, what was that? Maybe it is nothing, don't get so worried!".
So I continue my folder browsing. It happends AGAIN! Now I'm getting pissed, because with all my expereinces with computers, they all say this is going to ruin my day. So again, I look down there. Wondering what it is, I ready my mouse pointer to open some more folders as I look down in the corner of my screen! BOOM! I click the folder, it blinks about five times like five rapid sequential gunshots shot directly into my frontal brain lobe! It was horrible! It blinked so fast... it messed up the buttons in my start bar... IT WAS ANNOYING!

Desperately I search for the cause. I close WinMX... nope. I'm crying now. I'm getting a stoumach ache becuase this thing is happening, and its not supposed to, and its making me want to rip my fur out and stick my tail into a meat grinder. So I manage to calm myself down a bit. I think, "Ok ok, well, it has been awhile since youve reformated your system partition, and now would be a good time! What with the performance increase youl get, and youl get rid of that horrid problem of yours that had just poppedup and is making you go psychotic!" So I do this! I whip out my Windows XP Home Edition instalation CD and slam that bad boy into my CD-Rom drive. Wipe, format, reinstall, done. I get back into a fresh install of Windows... I look though my media files. IT IS GONE! Yes! I have won! It only cost me about a week of setting everything up the way I like it, but IT IS GONE! The monster that had been annoying me for about 15 minutes was bad enough to make me reformat. I had rid myself of its stench.

A few months later... Oh.. My... GOD... THERE IT IS AGAIN! I panic. I search the net for anything to fix this... having the same ammount of knowlege as I have attention span, I give up. I sigh, then look at the nifty 'Hide inactive icons' feature that comes with XP. I don't see it there... damn. Wipe, format, reinstall, done.

A few months later, IT POPS UP YET AGAIN! I'm allready on the verge of breaking now before this happened, my net was down, I had no AIM.. MSN... no Furcadia.. no communication or interation wtih anything that I knew. I am a sad wolf who does nothing but sit in front of his computer when at all possible, but thats just me. Anyway, my net was down, I was horridly depressed allready, then this problem pops up! I think, "Oh god, I don't even want to mess with it this time..". Wipe, format, reinstall, done. Being shorted DirectX 9.0c, I am no longer able to play the Halo PC demo any longer... not that it is much of a loss, since I had allready beaten it about five times. Anyways, I keep all of my instalation files so that was really the only problem, and the Windows updates (21 high security updates when I got back on too, woohoo!).

That fixed that. So, a few weeks later.. and it is tonight. I notice it again... it comes up and stabs me right in the face... IT IS BACK! Oh god! "Not this time!", I think. It has been too soon! The blinky icon beast will NOT win this time! I WILL NOT LET IT! So, once I finish panicing, I open up that nifty 'Hide inactive icons' customization thing again. I look. There it is! The icon! It is there now! I'm saved! I didn't have to reformat, and I rock becuase I found it! I see the icon there.. it says "Ogg DirectShow Filter"... but... why did it not show up last time? Maybe it did and I didn't see it? Anyways, theres my tale of the blinky icon of doom and how much hell it put me though over these past few months. I thought this would make a good story, but now that I think about it, it was pretty boring. Congradulations if you made it this far!

The System Tray is in the bottom right corner of the screen. That's about where I stopped.
