My system is old hat help?

I am new to this forum so first off thankyou for any advice.

OK there's the thing I have an old computer, But to be fair its served me well.

The spec. a four year old machine.

Gigabyte BX Dual mother board
Intel P111 550MHz/SECCII x2
Elsa Erazor X2 graphics card.
20Gig IBM 7200rpm HD

In the past running NT4 workstation, for learing 3D software.
But now on Wim98SE and not taking advantage of the dual processors

Yeh Yeh . . Ok back to my old box of tricks.

I have been trying to set up a dual boot with 98SE/NT4 and XP pro

So money being as tight as a ducks ass, I would like to upgrade my old work horse. But would also like to keep the innerds I already have and put them to use if possible.

Or should I look at a new Dual mother board or possibly a board which would take newer processors and my old ones? and if so which one.

I need the computer for Photoshop/ 3D software.
Oh and access to internet and DVD burning.

Any input would be intresting,

PS I work on G5's at work and although great can not justify spending that sort of money. so no big money spenders need reply.

Well that me lot if I get no replays before Christmas the lot goes in the skip.

Not sure how you would know the duck comment . ANYWAYS, if your going for a dual cpu mobo thats gonna cost you a bunch and 3D processing ussally requires a heavy weight 3D card. So i think your gonna have to write to santa

Thanks for the info, Its just a pisser, I work in a company that will upgrade at the drop of a hat, and I am still in the old age because the computer does what it needs to do, if you get my point.

I hate to be in this situation with computers because you get a load of Bull from people who cant even scratch their own ass.

I also hate cars and its funny some people I know spend all day talking about engines 0-60 etc

Oh well I was hoping for a Geek to help me out as I have joined the "Major GEEKS" home.

Your computer is seriously outdated. I wouldn't even bother trying to update it.

Don't dump it.
Wipe the hard drive and donate it to a charity store, or similar, please.
It's light years ahead of my P2/400 laptop so someone will get good use out of it.. Bazza

the only thing you could do is get a video card and get more RAM ... the video card may be tricky because of the age of your mobo ... and more RAM might help ya if you have less than 512MB

but yea ... that thing is so old sometimes it's best just to bite the bullet and buy a new system

 

I would go with this guys but what your looking for is never going to happend....You could probably build a good solid pc for photoshop with 400 dollars...I woudn't get rid of the computer like some guys have said, I think that old computers are more stable then new ones and harder to mess up..I should know....I know this doesn't help but I am just trying to put my two cent...Just leave that computer for word processing and going on the internet and start building...

Oh I intend to give it to charity, as I have just found out the skip would cost me 100 pounds (192.538 USD)

TT, Charities in every country would benefit from people donating "old" computers. Hell, even old XT and AT computers, (from the '80's) would help people learn Word processing, provided you can get a parallel port printer nowadays. Bazza
