My daughter has a brand new HP notebook with Vista connected to my desktop via a Netgear router. I am trying to "add network printer" and it doesn't recognize the printer on the network. Meanwhile, she has a desktop in her room room (Win XP) that is also wireless and has no problem recognizing my printer. The printer is turned on.
Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

    just adding on to bugga.

you might have to install the printer drivers before itll actually see the printer. also turn off your windows firewall or any other software firewalls you have installed for testing purposes.

Thanks guys. The printer is connected to my Dell desktop. The desktop is connected via Netgear wireless adapter. The printer is a dell AIO 942. My daughters desktop is the one connected to the cablevision modem and router. I'm not sure where the Vista laptop would see the other computers, where should I look for that? I looked at the link you gave for installing the printer. I cut and pasted this so you can see what my response is:

I can't plug the printer into the router because it's connected to my desktop (in my room) and I think via USB as well as that thingy with the prongs. As I mentioned, my daughter is able to print from her desktop to my printer so I don't know why the laptop can't 'find' the printer. I also have another desktop that my little ones use that has Vista and just went to see if I could locate a printer on it and it came back 'no printer found' as well. So could this be a Vista issue?
About a year ago when I first set up the printer to my daughters desktop it found it with no problem. I assume since my printer is hooked up via wires (usb and prong thingy) that it recognized it because my desktop is connected via the wireless adapter. oye....

The reason i asked if the computer could see the other because the same principal may apply to the printer. if you can see your computers then that means they are linked and installing the printer will be easy (should be easy) Under network connections there should be a tab that says view workgroup computers, Once you click it you should see the names of your other computers.
The link I included this time gives you step by step instruction on adding a printer.

    Hi

What you may need to install on the XP PCs is the LLTD Responder app that allows Vista to see XP networks in its network map as likely the printer is plugged into an XP PC.

I have the same issue. My computers recognize each other. I can print wirelessly from an Ipad; IPhone and another computer, but my Dell keeps losing the HP Printer. The HP sometimes falls off the network, but is easily brought back. Firewalls are set to allow the HP communication. Software and firmware are up to date.

Either this Dell is faulty or the HP is--OR BOTH. They BOTH leave a LOT to be desired!!

    I'd welcome any help!

    Use HP ePrint
Compared to Wi-Fi for wireless connection, but you can only connect in the same network, the HP ePrint is one significant step of breaking. Using the term cloud computing, HP ePrint technology allows users to print from anywhere though half the world away. According to HP, the printer with HP ePrint technology have 1 email address, the network connection to the printer with HP ePrint, and then you can use any device that can send email (laptop, PC, Ipad, Smartphone ... ) and mail sending text, pictures ... email to the printer, it automatically prints out for you.

We can say HP ePrint technology as connection type printing most convenient until now. HP is the first company and is the only technology of this HP ePrint, you can look at other firms, the firm does not have such as HP ePrint technology. Note that the HP ePrint also includes AirPrint and Google Cloud Print. Because one of the other companies as Canon ... also AirPrint or Google Cloud Print but not pushing enough as HP ePrint.

I bought this printer to print wirelessly on my network at home. E-Print just adds another layer of issues and delay--an often DOES NOT WORK. Bottom Line is HP talks a good game but then does not produce. There should be an easy answer here. If HP cannot supply it, it's time that everyone move to another brand.
