I'm extremely new to mysql and php. What I need to do is get an affiliate program script running. The hosting server for the website suposedly has mysql. How do I access that to install the php scripts for the affiliate tracking. Do I need special program on my box to access the mysql? As far as I know there have been no passwords or anything set up yet.

If you want to administer the DB from your machine, you need to put phpmyadmin onto your webspace (perferabley secured somehow). You probably won't be able to get to the DB any other way. To "install" the scripts, you just need to copy them over to your webspace.

You should have a username to access the database, or use the default (root with no password) and CHANGE IT QUICKLY!

Hey golfish thanks for the reply. I'm not real sure I understand how this all works.

As I understand, the mysql is a db on the server separate from the web site. Somehow I log on or send the db information from the web space. To access that or administer I would need another program separate from mysql or the affilliate program? This phpmyadmin you speak of, this need to be secure?

I know how to upload to the site etc, but how do I make it secure?
