n68c s ucc memory

hi all I've just upgraded my desk-top with the N68C s ucc motherboard, I also purchased an AMD Athlon X2 processor also a matched pair of 2GB ddr3 memory. on assembly I got a complete blank screen - no bias. I then removed the memory and only put a stick in slot 6 (blue A1), the desktop worked. I then swopped the memory sticks - it still worked. Next I placed one of these sticks in the other slot 7(blue B1) - blank screen, I swopped the sticks - again blank screen. The computer runs perfectly OK with the one memory but I would like to have both working. Am I missing a setting or somethimg or is the board U/S, I would be grateful for any suggestions.
One last thought ! will this memory only work in a specific OS like windows 7 . I'm using XP.

DDR2 1066 / 800 / 667 / 533 DDR3 1600 / 1333 / 1066 / 800 (please note: * DDR3 and DDR2 are supported separately * DDR3 memory is only supported by installing AM3 cpu).

You say you have an Athlon X2, is it really or an Athlon II X2? Cause an Athlon X2 isn't an AM3 socket CPU which is what that mobo requires to run DDR3 memory.

My cpu is :- Athlon (tm) II x2 250 - the fact it will read a single ddr3 memory seems to me to indicate the cpu and socket are OK, but I'm only an amateur. The box it came in said it was an AM3 socket.
