I was wondering if it is possible to change the registered owner on win xp home and if so how? I have changed the computer name and used xp pro ro change the name on user data files but can't seem to find out how to change the default name. I just bought this laptop and wouuld like everything to read as mine not part mine and part someone else.

I hope I worded the question correctly.

Thanks in advance for your help

You can, but it involves editing the registry.

Go to Start>Run> and type Regedit and press return.
Expand the tree (click the plus) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    Click SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Windows NT>CurrentVersion.
In the right pane, double click RegisteredOwner and change the name.
Click exit on the file menu.
You should also be able to change the organisation name in the same way should you wish.

I used xp setup pro and it had in fact changed the name. I used the regedit and it did verify this. My problem was e-mails were being returned at I thought it was something with the laptop and it turns out I had the wrong e-mail addy. You did note my sign on name right?

Steev, thanks for your help I do appreciate it
