The National Geographic Photo of the Day link, is from an old Computer magazine in my collection.

This cropped example is "Today's example is Mexican Free-Tailed Bats, Texas".
Cropped to fit in MG size limit.

    Hope you explore this link.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Nice pic, Bazza.

We have fruit bats in our area - I sit outside at dusk sometimes, watching them feed. They are aeronautic wonders.

Hi Caliban. We too have plenty in our area. Sometimes too many. They are protected and sometimes cause problems outside towns, and inside tropical fruit farms. ;)

Dang good reason not to go swimming in the buffet... I mean ocean. ;)

Sharks are awesome and amazing predators. They're intelligent, impressively optimized for what they do, and unfairly vilified for it... kind of like wolf packs on land. ;)

    I like wolves too. :)

I have nothing against sharks or wolves. But, if you are not in the water with them, they can't mistake you for food. ;)

Well, yeah. I don't go camping with a pack of wolves either. :)

Smart move Mimsy! We are slowly getting Coyotes here. Like to listen to them, unless they are attacking a domestic animal. Sad, but, that is what they do.

Bazza, I enjoyed the "pic of the day" en bookmarked the site. Even though I had bookmarked National Geographic for their wallpapers, I never came across or didn't see this feature. :)

I am not overly fond of sharks . . . but I have nothing against them. They are just being what they were created to be. I did find it hard to be concerned when I heard the Great White was endangered; C'est La Vie! :-D

I do however love wolves - they are, after all, where all modern dog breeds sprang from. I wonder what manner of man (or woman) it was that first befriended a wolf-pup in the dim, far reaches of our common past . . . or perhaps it was a common occurrence among different tribes or groups of people to thus discover the value of a Canis lupus bond. We will never know. It's enough that we like them, and they like us!

Same with cats . . . but I think that whole relationship was a cat's initial idea. They saw that a relationship between homosapiens and Felis catus would be beneficial to them. ;) Or, you can accept what Fernand Mery said - "God made the cat in order that humankind might have the pleasure of caressing the tiger."

There is a NatGeo Wallpaper Downloader.

Untested yet as I don't have time to fire up the Windows side.

I had a CLI to bring the Wallpapers into a folder, but have not installed after my last update. The scripting was based on this Ubuntu Forums Thread. .

I think it was the same with the wolves.
Probably some connection with hunting and prey.

I just had to post this photo. (see below)
As some of you may remember I was working in Sierra Leone at the start of the Civil War. Fortunately, for me, I left before the war got really, really nasty.
Lots of amputations of legs and arms, and killings, over diamonds.

A movie, based on the conflict, is Blood Diamond (2006) I would recommend.

    Watch the trailer at:

    Click on Watch Trailer.
    Beware: It is loud. :)

Back to the photo, this amputee has overcome his trauma, I hope.
