When i try and run a virus scan with norton anti-virus pro 04 it stops at the admin desktop and won't scan any further. it's only at 62 files done but won't advance. I've uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 times now and it still does the same thing. also i've ran a scan from the cd. I've also downloaded many other programs to scan the computer and they find nothing. Could this be a problem with my registry files?

Have you tried the free version of NOD32 here or AVG, both are excellent Antiviruses, do they do the same or?

    Welcome to Major Geeks,

Do you get any kind of error message? Maybe like the one below.

While running a manual scan of the hard drive, you receive the following error message: "Norton AntiVirus was unable to scan your computer for infections because a critical error occurred during the scan." In the lower-left corner of the window, you see the numbers 3019,1.

I do not receive an error message and i've used avg pro and it doesn't find anything either. The reason i figure it's a registry error is b/c it doesn't get passed the administry desktop on the scan and everytime i restart the computer it loads the language toolbar even tho i don't have it checked when i shut down

OK. I was going to suggest you empty your Temp files and Temporary Internet files, but you usually get an error message with that.

    Try this,
If Norton AntiVirus stops responding when scanning files, it may be having a problem scanning a particular file or folder. Breaking down the scan may help to identify what Norton AntiVirus is having problems scanning.

To break down the Norton AntiVirus Scan:

    Open Norton AntiVirus.
    Click File View.
Click to highlight a file or folder.
Click Scan or Scan/Repair to scan the file or folder.
If Norton AntiVirus completes the scan, repeat the steps 2 through 4 until everything has been scanned, or Norton AntiVirus does not complete the scan.

I forgot to add, you will have to uninstall 04 again before using the tool. If you think that's an option for you. Steve
