I am using Windows XP. This is a Compaq Pentium 4 with 2.4GHz
    Here is the trouble:
In 2002 when we purchased the computer it came with NAV 2002 already loaded and installed. In 2003, NAV posted that an update would cost money so my hubby didn’t want to pay. I have since used a few trial ware programs to try and stave off viruses (most were quite unsuccessful). After reading some product reviews online, I decided that NAV 2004 was my best alternative.
    1. First, I tried to download NAV2004 from an online site that offered a free trial to be purchased within 15 days. The problem I encountered was that after downloading, the information wizard for NAV 2004 would disappear off-screen anytime I tried to access it for a scan or anything. Also, it said that the email portion was not present. So I uninstalled and went to the store for the CD of NAV2004.
    2. After reading the directions and uninstalling everything I thought could possibly interfere with the download, I installed NAV 2004 again. Before the download, I had been unable to locate NAV2002 anywhere on my computer. Also, there was something called Live Update 1.9 from Symantec but when I went to uninstall it, the computer placed a warning that uninstalling that software might damage some programs, so I left it alone.
    3. The download went smoothly as it searched for threats and found none (I think the earlier online download had enabled us to remove all of those). Until, it came to the information wizard again. It still just disappears as soon as I attempt to use it. I can’t access Symantec .com from either IE or Netscape and I don’t know why. They both just re-direct me to a list of other internet sites related to software.
    4. When I clicked on the Live Update icon it gave me an error saying it was already in use. All of a sudden NAV 2002 was appearing in my program files as well.
    5. When I uninstalled NAV 2004, Live Update stayed on my computer and it listed in the programs but still suggests that I don’t uninstall it.
    4. Where did I go wrong and how do I fix it so NAV 2004 will actually function properly on my computer?

That site works for me. If I just knew which 2002 what I had on the computer. Since I reinstalled 2004, this time it doesn't show the old 2002 like before. I still can't figure out why I can't get to symantec.com for anything. I still can't get the 2004 to launch and that darned Live Update seems to still have a problem.

Did you try the Rnav.exe removal utility, that will help if you think there are still system files from NAV2002 hanging around.

Also, when you say " this time it doesn't show the old 2002 like before ", where was it showing it?

2002 appeared on my list of programs that could be added/removed after the first installation from the purchased CD. It disappaered after the first uninstall of the purchased CD. I'm going in to try the Rnav.exe this morning. I'll first uninstall 2004 again, and then try the Rnav.exe. I'll get back with you about the results.

okay! I followed all directions on the Symantec help website and learned a little about my startup menu, etc. in the process. NAV has been successfully installed on my computer and is running smoothly!! Woo hoo!! Thanks.
