Ndis2 Driver

The ethernet card (Realtek 8029) for the Lemon computer is not working due to the following error:

The NDIS.VXD device loader(s) for this device could not load the device driver. (code 2)
To fix this, click Update Driver to update the device driver

I have tried to update the driver by the Windows98 upgrade disk, by searching for a better driver, both to no avail. I'm not sure what this even is.

Anyone? Anyone?

This computer has a 500Mhz K6/2 AMD processor, 256 SD RAM, 30 gig Hard Drive, and a Tyan Trinity 100 AT Motherboard.

Well, the file ought to be in one of the .CAB files. NDIS is part of Windows. It allows you to dynamically bind more than one protocol to a network interface. Without it you'd need 1 NIC for every protocol. One for TCP/IP, one for NetBIOS, one for IPX/SPX, etc. You could use Winzip/Winrar to browse the .CAB files and then simply copy the file over.

Also, I'd search your system for the problem file. There might be multiple copies/versions, and one might be bad or old.

You might try reinstalling TCP/IP. IIRC, you can do that in Win98. That might work, but it might not, since NDIS is lower level than TCP/IP.

All this is assuming the error is correct that the problem is the NDIS driver. You might try generic driver updates, too.

 

After 6 hours of tweaking........no luck.

I'm gonna try a couple more things, and then I guess I'll throw in the towel. This computer needs to get done today, and it needs internet access......this really stinks.

I sure appreciate the suggestions, guys, say a prayer, here I go.....
