Neb processor -> computer won't start

I replaced my Athlon xp 1700+ with a Barton 2500+ on the Epox 8k9a7i motherboard. When I turn on the power, the LEDs for power and HDD light on, the fans start up as well as the HDD, but nothing more happens. No beeps, no graphics, nada. What's up?

 

did you clear the cmos bios?
refer to page 3-5 of your motherboard manual

yeah, I did clear the CMOS... What hurts even more is that even putting the old CPU does not help. Moreover, I noticed that the mo-bo starts up directly after I plug in the power cable, without waiting for the power button. I fear it passed away where the grass is greener and where 1 MHz = 1024 Hz ((

 

maybe you just cracked the core on ur proc...happens sometime....

 

well, the situation is clear now upon closer inspection it transpired that I had scratched the motherboard breaking two-three circuits when my screwdriver slipped as I was attaching the cooler major snafu, I could've sworn it didn't hit the mo-bo hard at all! the guys at the local store/hardware service station say there is a wizard among them who can wield the soldering gun like the best gunslinger of the ole West, so when he's back from vacation on Friday I will know whether he can fix it or I have to wring the wallet and scrape together a grand for a new mo-bo :/

So a word of warning to y'all: careful with the screwdriver, use gentle pressure only, as if you were ... um, well, better not continue. Cheers.
