Nedd help accessing internet

I have rescently endured a long process of malware/spyware/virius removal. Before I found MajorGeeks I was trying to access another online virus scan. My connection was lost and hasn't been back. Overall the computer seems much happier . My daughter won't be happy until she can get back on my space and whatever else she must have been doing. The network symbol in the toolbar says aquiring network address. The problem is, it never does. The PC is running XP home SP2. It has an internal network adapter. Connection is to a cable modem via a wired Belkin router. The other two PC's connected to the router access the net fine. Any help would be great.

g'day DLCFords i know you can not access the internet with the computer in question,but if you can use another computer and download this program " http://www.majorgeeks.com/WinSock_XP_Fix_d4372.html ".i have used this program myself after loosing internet connection due to malware ,it fixed the problem it may help you.

I ran the WinsockFix application with no luck.

I had previously stated that this machine has XP home SP2. I just learned that I have XP Media Center. I hope that isn't a problem.

I have done a few things trying to understand the problem better. I was went ahead and assigned a static IP to this machine. With that I am now able to ping the router, the other PC's connected to router, and the cable modem. I am still not able to access anything beyond the cable modem. Is it possible my ISP has blocked this PC from access?

Any additional suggestions would be great.
