I'm trying to create a database that will hold a 1000 point frequency response. It seems access is giving me trouble because I have to split up the 1000 points into 4 tables since each table can hold 255 columns. I would like to use this database in conjunction with .Net so I can run some FFTs, get the data, then dump it into the database. Is there any alternatives to Access that I can use?

I'm kinda guessing Oracle is the only other solution for me. I tried using Oracle, but it seemed to take over my computer to the point where I couldn't run anything on it. Is there a way I can run Oracle locally just like I would if I used Access?

I'm having some real trouble finding the right info on this subject. Any kind of help would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

You need 1000 Fields? Sounds like you could do this a bit different

Create a table that just holds the field names and give them each a unique ID

Create another table that holds a response and an ID for the field and a Unique ID for each survey

and Finally a third table that holds the user information and links back to the survey table ID

Or something similar, I think I'm close but its been a long day. Ill review my answer in the morning to see how cracked out it is

hmmmm sounds like an interesting plan. Let me see if I have this straight...

The first table will have one column which will hold the frequency values such as 10Hz, 20Hz, etc. This means that this table will never be edited as long as the same frequencies are used throughout the trials.

The second table will have three columns with the current item ID (FK), frequency ID (FK), and the response at that frequency

The third table will hold all the item IDs plus whatever other info that goes with each item.

Am I getting this right? It sounds pretty solid to me. I will try it out and see if I can get it running. Thanks Wookie! You duh best :-D
