been looking over the internet but i don't think i'll be able to find the absolute best, i live in ohio, in a small town of 19,000 with a 1 kroger and one 1 walmart and 1 liquor store.

I just want to try somthing that provides impressiveness, not too exspensive, i am willing ( if it's good to spend $12 per six pack).

also I don't want a beer where you have to drink 20 of them to get a buzz, i usually drink about 8-10 then stop ( Iam 6'3 255 lbs ) so it takes a few to get me going!

I like sam adams boston lagar (it has to be very cold) I'll drink bud light, coors lite, very cold bud ice, jim beam and coke ( i know not beer) just giving you some history.

basically what i need from you my friends is a higher quality beer,<$12/6pack
that taste superb, personal experience necessary-and remember I have to be able to find it, given my limited small town situation. even if you think you have a response that doesn't fit- we can turn this into our favourite beer Thread!!

    thanks for all the responses!!:drink

You can make your own beer with pre-made extract kits if you're so inclined, it's about a third of the price but you will have to buy equipment up front and have the patience to wait for it to mature.;)

Molson's Brador, ExtraStock, or Golden. Guess I like Canadian beer. I rarely indulge, but love a good beer with a bucket of good oysters, lightly steamed, with seafood sauce, hot sauce, and horseradish. Maybe an order of hot wings on the side too.:drool

Oh ya, I've made lots of beer of all different types over the years. I got it down down to such a routine that it was very quick to make, the most work that had to be done was cleaning and filling the bottles. Still only 2 hrs. or so for around 60 351ml bottles. The ales mature the quickest, about two monts on is good, especially with the Australian lagers. That might not suit your pallette as I believe most American beer is a Pilsner.

Wow, I hated Brador when it first came out some 30+ years ago. It was the first popular beer that had the extra alcohol, can't recall ATM what it was, maybe %6?

They're over-rated, trust me. I usually drink an English Ale/Beer. But then, again, I am biased, LoL!;)

Chimay with the blue label. Those dang Trapppist monks have it going on! Again, with the monks, try Westmalle Dubbel. I think both of those are in the 9% alcohol region, if you can drink 10 of those, I can't help you! :p

Get in with the local wine/beer store, sometimes they can order stuff for you they won't normally carry.

These are best cold, but not iced.

My personal favorite is a Belgian beer called Duvel. You can get it in the grocery stores in GA, so you might be able to get it there. It is a little on the expensive side, but tastes great and packs a punch at 9% alcohol/volume. (so 1 12oz beer is nearly the same as 3 bud lights)

the problem with lite beer (or is it light) is getting it back into the horse,

Ask your local liquor store if they can give you a list of whats available at the wholesaler. It is very likely that they only buy 'safe sellers'. Offer to give them the money up front.
I used to own a Convenience store and quite often I was asked by regulars to buy them special beers from abroad.
    Worth a shot?
    :)

If your liquor store will get it for you, try some Hobgoblin, from the UK. It's one of the the best bottled beers I've had. Black Sheep is pretty good too.

Try some local microbreweries ale. It's infinitely better than the mass produced stuff you can buy.

I understand the West Coast of the US has some great beers. I live in Western Canada and there is a lot of choice here too. I never have to resort to a Molson or a Labatts

    Hmm....

Couple of my favorite atm would be Paulener and Blue Paddle

Paulener is a little pricey. I think I paid about ten dollars for a six pack, but it is definitely worth it. It packs a punch too. Don't know how to describe the taste, but to me, it just tastes like a real beer should taste like.

Blue Paddle would be more of an acquired taste, as with Fat Tire. Those are my special occasion beers. My casual beers are rolling rock and dos equis.

For a nice change of pace, I like Sam Adam's Cherry Wheat. It's so good with frozen Little Debbie's Swiss Rolls. Try it ;)

Molsons Brador is around 6% (12 proof), here in Florida all beer used to be 3.2%, but thankfully the rules have changed. I have friends near the Canadian border pick it up if I want it. Same with Extra Stock, it is a Labatts product, as in Labatts Blue, a darker heavier beer, but not a Guinness. Also seems to be exclusively Canadian. Molsen Golden is usually available at the local supermarket here in the southland, and usually in our refrigerator. I grew up with Genessee and Genessee Cream Ale, but doubt I would enjoy it like I once did.

I also brew. But, if ye wish to try a few new types:

    Try:

    90 minute IPA
    120 minute IPA
goto morebeer.com to brew your own, or northernbrewers.com

    Or try some of these:

Hey Musksnipe, being your from the west coast, how do you rate Bell's? I've had a few of 'em. Especially good at the pub in downtown Kazoo.

I try to keep to my budget and only drink Milwaukee's Best Light. Frickin' inflation...its now $12.49 + deposit for a 30 pack. Might be watered down and tasteless...but when your in my boat...quantity counts!
    :p

Actually, I never had any. I did hear it was good.

hahahaha...I always wondered that! Like Corona, do they actually drink that in mexico?

How about American? Are there any American beers that are heavily advertized overseas as 'American'?

Good stuff, but the bad thing is, I would have to drive to North Carolina to get some, due to they do not sell it here in IL.
