Hello. My brother got a game for his birthday (knights of honor), but the cd drive on our comp won't work. So we had to copy the files from the CDs (on my dad's comp) to our comp. We ran the setup and it's installed. My problem is that you need disc 2 in the cd drive to play. Is there any way to 'trick' it into accessing a folder instead of the drive?

    much thanks.

There are ways, not too sure if they can be discussed here though? (And don't anyone PM me asking me how!)

You could create a virtual drive, but cd drives aren't very expensive.

The easiest and best way is to just buy one.

Ok. Thanks for replying. I'll look into it.

Insomniac is quite correct. But, can you access any other cds? What OS is this? Is DMA enabled or disabled?

IF YOU CAN TELL ME THE RIGHT WAY TO FORMAT MY HD, PLEASE GO DOWN TO THE PS AT THE BOTTOM.

No i can't get any other CDs to work. the drive won't even open most of the time (i gotta shut off comp and pry it open {i know it's not good, but what can you do?}) It doesn't even detect CDs anymore, so it's sitting on my diningroom table. Also, i've got xp home and i don't know what DMA is.

Insomniac. I both followed and didn't follow your suggestions. I did a search on virtual drives and found a program called Virtual Drive Pro (http://www.farstone.com/home/ensite/products/virtualdrive-pro.shtml). While installing it, i had to set up a virtual drive so i now have a drive D: (my old cdrom was E) that i can't get rid of.
Also, because the program wasn't working, i tried to uninstall it, but it won't let me. Everytime i try to run the unistall wizard or program it doesn't come up, but when i go to task manager, it shows that there's several instances of the program running, but they only use up like 40-60k ram and nothing happens.

I thought it might be a virus, so i used my virus scanner prog (avast) and it found a trojan and moved it to the virus chest thing, but i still can't delete it. I also ran addaware and it removed a few things. When it still wouldn't work, i downloaded microsoft antispyware, but the install wizard won't pop up, just like the virtual drive program.
I tried to run both the antivirus setup and virtual drive uninstall in safe mode, but it told me that it can't run the windows setup wizard in safe mode. Also, i can run virtual drive pro in safemode.

So why can't i just leave virtual drive pro and go on with life? Because ever since i installed it, my computer has been going slow, programs freezing, and i've restarted it/shut it down about 20 times since yesterday.

Also yesterday, i bought a new samsung combo drive at walmart. I couldn't run the setup (same thing happened; it wouldn't popup, there were a few instances in task manager), but i put in a music cd and a few others and it read them just fine.

One more thing. The game that i needed the cd for won't pop up either.

If anyone has any ideas about how to uninstall this program(virtual drive pro), i'd be happy to hear em.

PS: i'm planning on reformatting my hard drive anyway, so if you could help me do that, i've already got all the files i need off of my comp.

I just went to windows explorer , right clicked c and clicked format, but it says "Windows cannot format this drive. Quit any disc utilities or any other programs that are using this drive, and make sure that no window is displaying the contents of this drive. Then try formatting again", even when there's no programs running. I tried it in safe mode too.

So if you could tell me a better way to format, please do.

    Thanks alot.

You can't format the drive that you are using to run the OS, and that is what Windows was telling you. On problem drives, I download the drive manufacturers utilities and use this to "0" the hard drive to an as shipped condition. This also overwrites the MBR which isn't done in a regular format. I noticed Insomniac and thee fool in this thread, and I'm sure that they will weigh in with other and better solutions. :)
