Need a faster DVD encoder.

Hola Geeks, i need some recommendations for a dvd encoder, ive been using dvdflick and it is great on the slower settings but they are a bit too slow, and on the "fastest" setting the audio always comes out out-of-sync.

Now the quality doesnt have to be that good but i need the sound in sync, i also just need a prog that can give me the image as i use a third party burner prog.

I should point out this is one the areas with 'puters where i fail miserably so the simpler the program the better, although i am capable of learning if it will get the job done.

Just to reiterate, the quality does not have to be anything special, i am more than satisfied with the pic and sound quality on the fastest setting in DVDflick if only it was in sync.

Afterthought: is ther anyway to *fix* the sound once ive got the video image written?

    Thanx

Same thing happened to me, the out-of-sync thing.

In my experience, the out-of-syncness happens when the audio of the source file is variable bitrate.

You can always try Avi2DVD. You have a choice of 3 different encoders.
I did NOT find a link to it on MG, so here: http://www.trustfm.net/divx/SoftwareAvi2Dvd.php
Slightly messy UI, but it works. (I prefer QuEnc, it's a good compromise between speed and quality)

If under Vista, make sure to run as administrator. (Also, I found that it randomly failed until I deselected "Make ISO")

You could possibly fix the sound by demuxing and remuxing but it's pretty tricky on an already-authored DVD. What I would recommend is downloading Media Player Classic, and before burning a DVD, drag and drop one of the IFO files in and that'll load the DVD, and there you can see if it's out of sync (unless the problem is due to a crappy player)

However the best thing I'd recommend is leaving it to encode overnight.

Thanks for the reply aimee, however i have this problem without fail regardless of audio format, whenever i use the fastest setting.

I have tried avi2dvd and it was no faster than dvdflick.

And hell will freeze over before i let vista run in this house :p

I check the Video ISO's before i burn them to disc by renaming the .ISO extension to .AVI and then VLC plays them happily ;)

As for the suggestion of let it burn overnight, with the greatest respect, that is contradictory to my goal, besides, dvdflick can knock out a two hour long vid in just over 3hrs [on my rig] while it is on the "normal" setting with satisfactory results, on the "fastest" it does it in just over an hour and twenty minutes, but then the sound is goosed.

Surely i must be able to trade off some pic quality for a faster encode without getting out of sync sound.

Well, IIRC, technically the syncing it's to do with the fps -- frames per second. And the fps is to do with picture quality.

Ok after many hours trying many prog's i've found a winner.....

    WinAvi

It can bang out a decent DVD in 45mins and the sound is perfectly in sync :)

It's a paid program but worth every penny imo but they have a tial to give it a go [puts a water mark in the vid]

I allways use Nero Vision, its allways in sync and you can create your own menu to boot :)

Not as fast as winavi, takes about 1.5 hours
